how to block commercial calls, robo calls

I'm on the do not call list, and I understand that it is actually illegal to commercially call cell phones, but I'm getting some. Is there a general ap or way to block all of them, or do I have to individually block them. I can't find how to do it in the manual.
I have the Assurance Lifeline ZTE N817 4.4.4 "Quest".

It may or may not be illegal, but there is certainly no enforcement by the government.

With no special apps, you can either (1) manually add them to your blocked list as they arrive, or (2) block all callers not in your contacts list.

There are some apps you can download that work as a caller ID add-in that may help with the problem, but I have no recommendations.

The recent versions of Google's dialer app is working very well for me with regards to call blocking. It identifies spam calls and after a new spam number calls me it prompts me to add it to the block list. I'm not sure if you can install that dialer and replace what's on your device.
