Why can't I send message any longer?

[AC Question]

Accidently hit button on the left and hit always. Usually send a message via choice on right and hit just once. Sorry I can't tell you the choices as they are gone now.
When I pick a contact name and try to message I get this-"to send an SMS with hangouts turn on SMS in settings". I don't want to use hangouts-want to do it the way I used to before not paying attention and hitting wrong stuff. Please help as I can't message ANYONE now!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Try going to Settings>Apps, select Hangouts, and Clear Defaults. Or go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu, then Reset All App Preferences.

Try Reset App Preferences or Reset Defaults, or perhaps just the latter in your messaging app in Settings, Apps, All.
