Gmail App not working, fixes don't work, after Andriod 7 update

Hi,

I have a HTC One M9 which updated to 7.0 a couple of days ago.

Since then the GMAIL app has refused to work I've tried everthing.

I've done the cache wipe, made no difference.

I have managed to clear the App somehow so now when I click on it it says 'New to Gmail"?

But I can't add my gmail address, if I click on google nothing happens.

I can't remove my google account from the phone, go to the account, select remove account... nothing happens.

What do I try next? Thanks

This may be one of those really annoying things, that nothing but a Factory reset can clear up after an upgrade.
Unfortunetely Google is so integrated, gmail is not just like any other app. This may be the only possibility
