How come my Samsung Tab Pro only charges when powered off?

I've looked into it and it might be time for a battery change. Instead of charging when using it it decreases slowly as if it wasn't being charged. When unplugged the battery drains even faster. Before I go get a battery change, is there any other way to fix this issue? It's been working fine for about 3 years.
