    Default Why Buy the Prime

I like the specs of the Prime and I feel the screen resolution is good enough for me. What I battle is putting digital movies on the prime. The way I understand it, the Prime or any Android unit won't play M4V files. The solution is to go to with the iPad, but I want to know what you all like about the Prime and what is the advantage of Android over iOS. I am new to Android and just want to know what you all like about the Prime

Thank you all in advance for your comments.

I really love my Prime. I have some movies on mine but they are avi files. Streaming Netflix is awesome on the 720p screen, too. I enjoy this tablet much more than the OG Transformer I bought, and returned, last year. It's smooth, light, and real fun to use. If you want then I would take advantage of the return policy from wherever you plan on getting it from. I bought mine from best buy and threw the 30 day return policy out the window a week after purchasing it. I, as well as many people here, love the Prime and I don't think you will be disappointed. Give it a shot!
P.S. I like my Prime much more than my wife's iPad 2 :-)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure there are third party apps that will play m4v files.

Android vs iOS....the age old debate that will wage on forever it seems. lol. I always tell people this..if you like simplicity go iOS..if u like full control and customization..android is for you. That being said, as far as movies go..putting them on your TF201 is simple. Hook it up to your computer and transfer the files over. I think there should be a third party app to play movies in whatever format you have them.

I can't necessarily tell you why YOU should buy the prime, but I had an ipad 2...what make me leap on the prime was that first and foremost I really like the android OS. Secondly..this tablet coupled with the dock I felt gave me the perfect experience in between using a tablet and a computer. But what REALLY sold me was when I saw the video of a guy hooking up his ps3 controller to the dock and playing all those old nintendo 64 games & shadowgun and games like that. Without any additional downloads, drivers or anything like that. It was just plug and play.

So again, I can't say why YOU should buy..I can only tell you what made me pull the trigger.

I don't expect anyone to tell me to buy the Prime. I just want to see from former ipad 2 owners, How do you like the transformer prime in what took you from iOS over to android. Or why do some of you go with the Prime?

I spent a lot on webOS and as much as i love the OS, I feel it is time to move on. I see the Samsung Tab which looks nice, but there is the Prime that looks amazing too.

I just dont want to make another bad choice if you know what I mean!

I have had an iPad and the prime and I would never go back to the iPad. IMO there are so many more free apps on android. The customizations on android make the pad so much more enjoyable. Android might not be as "hip" but you can do so much more. The SD card alone makes the prime so much more expandable not to mention the dock. If you love itunes that might be a consideration.
Feeling sorry for all those ipad/iphone users out there.

I am a former iPad owner and I much more prefer my prime. The "total" control I have verses the very limited control I had on the iPad was the game changer for me. m4v files typically have DRM and won't play on the prime unless downloaded from a source such as Google Play. But I like that there are android apps such as mx video player that will play almost any video file as opposed to the iPad where I had to convert my videos to a format supported by IOS.

If you ever have trouble with a file format, you can always get a converter and change it to something more standard like AVI. Not sure if that's possible with an MV4, but, it might be worth looking into. I've done this before with other file formats.

I posted this yesterday and for some reason the post didn't come through or was deleted, but my Prime plays .M4V video with no problems using the stock media player.

I sold my iPad OG and iPod Touch (3rd gen) to pick up the Prime. I haven't looked back. Reason number one for me, I'm tired of the way Apple does business, suing the pants off anyone who gets in their way for instance. Second, I have an Android phone and buying apps one time, is a major plus versus buying it in iTunes then in Android Market Google Play. I also really like the customization/personalization you can do with Android out of the box, with iOS, you have to jailbreak to do anything fancy at all. Now for the Prime specifically... THE POWER!!!! Not to mention the beautiful and TOUGH Gorilla Glass screen and awesome keyboard dock should you decide to buy that accessory. With the dock, connection options seem endless, between cabled LAN (via USB adapter), wireless mouse and game controllers. And you don't need to use up your bluetooth connection to have a physical keyboard. I love my Prime and have NO regrets in moving away from Apple to get it.

**Edit... oh yeah, as stated above, apparently you can play .m4v files with the stock media player. But I did look in Google Play and 3rd party apps will definitely let you do it... for free!

I went from the iPad 1 to the Prime, and was happy for awhile. Since my initial happiness, I have been experiencing crashing apps (like Gmail), and several spontaneous reboots per day. Missed some of the apps I had on the iPad, such as Flipboard and the excellent Facebook app. Even Tapatalk is better.

I never should have tried the new iPad, because the comfort of a platform that just works flawlessly was rather stunning. And the screen and speed of the new device is more impressive than I thought it would be. Much as I love Android, it is clear to me what I must do. I'm taking back the Prime and going with the new iPad. Really was no contest after struggling with the Prime for a few weeks.

Oh, and you can play the video files in the MX Video Player, which is really quite good on the Prime.

Congrats!! You wont be disappointed. I have had mine for two days now and I am loving it. I thought through my research I picked the best tablet, and, I'm positive I made the right choice. I love the dock. It is flawless to take it out and be on the move. And, having that much extra battery is awesome.

The only issue I've notice thus far is one time when I opened it (from being in the shut docked position) the screen wouldn't come back on. It seemed like it shut itself off. Only, I couldn't turn it back on. I wasn't too happy. But, I held down the power button for about 15 seconds and it vibrated and turned back on. Other than that, I couldn't be happier.
