Behind in production?
So I ordered a TP on Amazon and its been 2 days and I haven't gotten a notification that it was sent yet. Beforehand though I went to best buy and staples and they were both sold out of Primes.. Ya I was all happy to get the day of until I found out that news hehe. I was just curious to what the lack in supply of transformers is? I mean if Ipads can sell like a mad house and not be out of stock why can't TP =)

Re: Behind in production?
Apple is a much larger company than Asus. When Apple is ready to launch a product they buy up massive numbers of the required components well in advance. They buy in much larger quantities than other companies do, because most companies these days operate on a "Just In Time" delivery of components. This allows companies to keep inventories low and adapt to changing component prices. Apple, on the other hand, just buys tons of whatever they need and they get huge volume discounts on the components. Because of this they (in theory) shouldn't run into shortages, whereas another manufacturer very likely could. On top of that, Apple's purchasing of many common components can actually create a shortage for Apple's competitors.
On top of that, Asus is working on shipping their next wave of tablets, the Transformer Infinity 300 and 700. I would expect to see production of the Transformer Prime to drop off a bit as those other products ramp up, and eventually see the Prime be replaced by them.
But most importantly, it's supply vs. demand. Demand for the Prime is very high right now, as it is the only tablet currently shipping on "modern" Tegra 3 architecture. Most other manufacturers announced products at CES earlier this year but are still not shipping yet. Asus announced the Prime last fall and started shipping in December, so they're basically the only game in town at the moment for a Tegra 3 Android tablet. Demand is high, and when retailers get their hands on inventory they usually are sold out same-day. - 04-04-2012, 10:18 AM

Re: Behind in production?
Wow, that is really lame. I guess I got lucky getting mine in two days. It'll be well worth the wait though. I love mine.

When I ordered the 201 on March 23, Amazon gave me a long delivery time..May 1st. I was ok with that as I had read Asus was redoing the back . Yesterday I received an email from Amazon that my order was being shipped . Sure enough ..it will be here on Monday the 9th.
When I ordered from Amazon ..none of the BEST BUYS or HH Craig's had any and didn't know when they would arrive..
Biggest plus getting it from Amazon is the extra Warranty you can get, IMHO , is better and less expensive than BB or HH.

Re: Behind in production?
Well, Prime only gives you two day shipping and has nothing to do with when it ships out, ya know?
Well, good, I'm glad that you'll have yours soon. I'm sure you are excited, and, you are gonna love it.
Yes, I am thrilled with it. Everything about it is great and I'm loving the dock. Took a day or two to adjust to the slightly smaller keys, but, definitely awesome now that I'm used to it. Also, turning of the touch pad when not in use is a good idea. Thankfully there is a button on the keyboard to turn it on and off real quick. - 04-06-2012, 03:47 PM

Re: Behind in production?
I'd be curious to know if that has something to do with it. I'd definitely suggest the dock. It's really useful, and, it's added protection for when it's closed.

Re: Behind in production?
This is a little bit off topic but I was wondering if there is a difference between the tf201 model the 700 cause I think i got the 201 versión of the prime. I google the 700 and i couldn't find anything.

This.
You can try ordering online at Gamestop or seeing if a local store has some. Not all Gamestop stores are selling them. In my area, only two stores have been authorized by Gamestop Corporate to carry them. I intentionally got mine from Gamestop as Gamestop pre-loads a few games at no additional cost. Also, people are overlooking Gamestop so you have a better chance at physically getting one in stock.

Re: Behind in production?
I actually got mine on eBay for $485 back in March. Amazon had told me it would be like 3 weeks and I couldn't wait that long. It came with everything, plus a case that they had bought for it. Has worked perfectly since day 1 and no issues (it's the BC serial series). I love this thing!
You guys are making me want to buy a dock now...
