How long should I let my Prime charge?

So my Prime will be arriving in the mail today and I'm super excited to get to play with it, but I know with some devices you need to let them charge so my question is: How long should I let my Prime (and dock) charge before I start playing with them?

Tell you what, i just picked one up from best buy because they have stock and i plugged it in with the same notion and it started itself right up, so i don't think that the whole plug in and let charge thing will work lol.

The manual says to charge it for at least 8 hours. So I just plugged mine in overnight.

You should be able to turn it on right away, but, I had heard some came severely discharged, so, you want to get it plugged in ASAP.

If you are talking about battery conditioning, it shouldn't really matter. This site has some great battery info.

"Lithium-ion is a very clean system and does not need formatting when new, nor does it require the level of maintenance that nickel-based batteries do. The first charge is no different than the fifth or the 50th. Formatting makes little difference because the maximum capacity is available right from the beginning. Nor does a full discharge improve the capacity once faded. In most cases, a low capacity signals the end of life. A discharge/charge may be beneficial for calibrating a “smart” battery, but this service only addresses the digital part of the pack and does nothing to improve the electrochemical battery. Instructions to charge a new battery for eight hours are seen as “old school” from the nickel battery days."

When i got my prime, the battery was dead. I charged it until it turned on. But i needed a certain % of battery before i could update to ICS. So about 30 minutes.

Apparently some of them were coming dead or severely drained. Not sure why this would be the case though. The battery would have to be somewhat charged for them to test them out before selling them. And, since they can barely keep them in stock, it's not like they are sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Kinda strange.
