Default Tether my Prime to my Sprint Phone

Hi folks. I've never gone down the road, before, of tethering a tablet to a phone, which I think is the same as saying I'd like to use my phone as a hot spot for my tablet.

Phone is Motorola Photon on Sprint.
    Tablet is Transformer Prime.

I've seen threads and on-line info about some apps that will do this.

My boss will pay the $30 monthly fee for me to just have Sprint activate the service. Often, I can connect to wifi, but there are times when I cannot and it would help to have a connection for work purposes.

I'm wondering if, besides the $30 monthly cost issue, there are any other reasons to avoid doing this directly through Sprint as opposed to the other options that seem to exist.

Thoughts and guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

I just use FoxFi to connect mine when I need to. Because I have an HTC phone, I must connect using Bluetooth but since you have a Motorola phone, you should be able to connect through WiFi. Of course, if your boss is willing to pay the $30, you may want to just do it through Sprint. It won't cost you anything extra. Just my 2 cents.
    I choose Android...it's only logical.

Do you know if there is a speed difference or any other difference besides the cost?

That is a good question and the answer likely is that it depends on how you connect. When you use FoxFi in WiFi mode, chances are the speed is the same. Speeds are likely slower when using it in bluetooth mode (that's how I have to use it because I have an HTC phone). I can tell you, however, that my connection has been excellent and it has worked quite well. You should test it out. It won't cost you to try it. Here is a link to the Play Store.

It doesn't, not by itself. You need to install software that allows tethering the tablet to the phone via bluetooth or wifi. FoxFi is one of those programs and it works very well. Once you install it, it has instructions on how to set up your tablet to connect with the phone to get internet. Because you have an HTC phone (like I do), FoxFi will only work through a bluetooth connection. For folks who have phones of other brands, there is a WiFi mode that works as well.

This is what it tells me.....the Asustransformer prime version of ics firmware is missing the "tun.ko" component which is required for your bluetooth internet solution to work properly....tablet is not able to support unless u root.....this is what i am getting.

    Without rooting the tablet?

Edit: nevermind. Got it working with Foxfi on my Thunderbolt, and PDA Tablet New on my Prime.

I use wi-fi tether on my rooted CM9 Epic, tethered perfectly with my new ASUS Prime, which is awesome by the way.

The Prime is stock, haven't gotten the nerve to toy with it yet. Haven't seen a reason to either. Would love to know what I am missing.

You are missing Titanium Backup, Ad Away, and NG Cache Cleaner. Just to name a few.

TF Prime connected using my HTC Thunderbolt. PdaNet on the Prime and FoxFi on the phone. Works great and my wifes iPad can't.

I've got CM9 on my Epic 4G, also on Sprint, and I've used the wireless tether built into the ROM flawlessly with the Prime. Was able to video chat with someone on Skype on my Prime with no noticeable lag or drop in quality.

I was somewhat concerned about doing it, since I've heard that, despite having unlimited data, carriers will come after you for using workarounds/hacks to use your phone as a hotspot, but I haven't had any problems yet.
