Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
Are any of you Prime owners considering selling the TF201 and getting the Nexus 7? I'm aware of the screen size difference but is that a deal breaker for anyone? It's half the price and maybe wifi works better :/ thoughts?

Nah. The prime has a bigger+better screen, and the keyboard dock is killer, especially with the USB and battery. Plus, I've come to trust Asus with updates. Faster processor and more storage seals the deal for me.

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
I'd get a Eee Pad Infinity before a Nexus 7. I still feel like we got the short end of the pooper scooper for purchasing the original Prime. They just redesigned it with a stable wifi, GPS, and added a new resolution screen to it and called it another tablet. They could have easily halted production of the Prime and gave the buyer a choice of refund or exchange for the Infinity. I'm happy with my Prime, but I still feel slighted by Asus.

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
I'll enter the contest and take it if I win, but I won't buy it otherwise.

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
Not for myself, I love the 10" and dock, but I'm getting one for my 92 y.o. mother and her fiance to replace the 10 y.o. notebook that is murder to maintain.

Yes. $200 is not bad considering the heavy punches it can duel out. Who cares about a rear camera? Use your phone. Also hear a lot of complaints about not enough storage for music. That's why they invented the cloud. I do wish it had 3g capabilities though since there aren't a lot of wifi connections on my side of town

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
Bought an 8GB one for my son to replace his Kindle Fire... but I still enjoy my Prime and dock.. warts and all.
If I hadn't bought the Prime.. then perhaps I would have considered it instead. - 07-02-2012, 07:45 PM #16

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
Yeah I am going to sell my Prime (with Keyboard dock and GPS Dongle) and get the Nexus 7!

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
I could never downsize to a smaller screen now. And, the dock is great, changes the experience of a touchscreen device completely. And the second battery in the dock is great.
Besides, phones are getting close to being seven inches themselves.
Why would I want a tablet only slightly bigger than a phone I could own.

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
I ordered the 8gb on Saturday - it's out for delivery. Should be here in a few hours.
Mainly want it for better wifi. Love the Prime for home and office, but the weak WiFi is usually useless in hotels. Smaller size might be nicer on the road too. For $200, its worth trying out.
My prime has gotten very glitchy since the last update. Never had many fc's before, now have them constantly. Hopefully nexus 7 will lead us to jellybean quickly. - 07-18-2012, 08:33 AM #20

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
I love when I'm tracking and it says "Out for Delivery." I actually have a package for a new mouse out for delivery right now and I'm checking outside for it constantly. Lol. Of course, as soon as I buy it the price drops by 20 bucks. Looks like a killer mouse though, and, I'm very excited to unbox that bad boy today.

Honestly, while I generally only get one or two out of four bars, I haven't found the WiFi to be slow. But, I'm not using it in a hotel and I'm generally close to the source of the WiFi, so, maybe it's way worse when the source is farther away.
Yea, well, lets just hope that they don't forget about us now that they have an official Google partnered device to worry about.
Hey, well, that's good. Thanks for letting us know!!
When you say FC do you mean Force Close? If so, you can hit Wait and it should resolve in a couple of seconds. It's what I do. Better then FCing my browsing session. Other than the browsing hangups, I don't experience any hangups.
Prime is a little buggy, yeah, but, hopefully they'll clear that up soon. I could go for another update. I had high hopes for this update, but, it didn't really deliver.
Lol, you have to use your Prime's charger? Why? The 7's charger just wont charge it? Did you contact Asus to let them know about the problem? They should send you out a new charger if it's not working. I'd think you'd get it fast as it's a brand new tablet and they'll want you to be able to use it.
I'd contact them ASAP.

Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
The 7's charger won't put out enough juice. I'm using the Prime's charger with a micro usb cord - that's working fine - I'm just alternating charging nights between devices now.
I have called Google (Asus isn't handling nex7 support) and it's been somewhat frustrating. They couldn't just send me a charger. They told me a support engineer would call me within 2 days to further troubleshoot my dead charger. Two days later, no call, but they send me an rma and shipping label for the entire device. I'm not sending the tablet back -guess i have to start over. That charger can't cost them more than a dollar. - 07-24-2012, 11:33 AM #23

Yea, but, it should put out enough juice. It's for that tablet, ya know?
Well, if you didn't get a call back in two days, you need to call back. You need to call back over and over again until you get someone that will deal with your issue. Don't let them push you aside. Seriously? An RMA lfor the entire device when it's probably just the charger? Well, whatever, if that is the silly way they want to handle it, you can either call and demand a new charger again, or, just let them do it their silly way. - 07-25-2012, 08:12 AM #24
Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
It gets better. Called Google support back on Monday. They cannot warranty anything other than the entire device as-boxed, so if I want a charger that works, I have to swap the device. I can't just take the charger from the new box and return the replacement device or I'll get charged $200 (even though I've returned the 2nd unit and only have one.) I've had this thing a week now and don't want to set it up again (had to have the device set up in my office exchange server) and I have good one with no dead pixels, light bleed or delamination.
Next issue is they can't get my account send to send a replacement at no charge anyway, so I have to have the charge on my card while the exchange takes place - once again, just for a charger. Google rep told me if I didn't want to exchange the tablet, I could just buy a new charger in the Play store for $25 plus shipping.
I kept trying to get the rep to admit this was all ridiculous - overnighting a replacement tablet back and forth when she could just ship me a charger and be done with it - but she was able to stick to the Google support script. I'm going to let Google win this one - not worth the effort to get frustrated over this - it's just comical at this point. I need to send my Prime back under warranty soon anyway - I may gain a charger in that exchange. - 07-25-2012, 08:33 AM #25
Re: Anyone getting the Nexus 7?
Trying to get back on topic - over the past week, I've found myself going for the N7 over the Prime because of its smaller size - the Prime seems way too big after getting used to the smaller screen. Two considerations though: I have pretty good eyesight and I don't own the dock. The N7 is book sized, plenty big for plowing through twitter and web browsing without having a lap full of tablet (I'm not a gamer.)
Where I will still use the Prime is sorting photos from my "big" camera. The Prime can scoot through large jpg files much faster than a PC - using a SD to MicroSD convertor, not the Asus SD card reader (that thing is slow.)
