should i get a og transformer or prime

Been wanting to get a tablet for a while. Finally have the funds but am wondering if I should get the og transformer or wait who knows how long for the prime. Any thoughts?

Depends on your needs. The Prime should excel in Gaming, it is lighter and thinner, it has a brighter more easily read screen. The Prime has serious GPS issues (to the point of ASUS even removing it from it's specs) and the WiFi reception is not really up to par (from the posts on the Prime forum).

Now for me I really want/need a GPS for several apps that I use and am concerned about the WiFi issues. I am not really a gamer so the OG Transformer seemed to be a good fit. That, the lack of Prime inventory, and Office Depot had a sale on them the week before Christmas and I got a 32GB TF101-B1 for $399.

The TF is available right now on TigerDirect.com for 299. That with the 100 deals on the dock gets you with the whole rig for about 400. You will be at 650 for the prime minimum to get the whole rig. That's a no brainier to me the OG TF has had the kinks worked out and is getting ICS shortly.

Get the older TF and take your 250 of saved (earned) cash and eiher buy something else that you want, pay down a credit card, put it in savings, play it all on black at roullette (sp?) - anyone of these is a better investment than blowing more than 150% of the cost of the TF for a processor upgrade and way more bugs.

Unless you are one off those people who craves the newest and "bestest" regardless of the cost - the value here is definitely higher for the last gen. I am a big fan of always trying to get one gen back hardware - it works better and other people have paid the new adopter tax.

After stating this, I will add that i do not always follow my own advice as I bought the TF when it had only been out for a few months - but in my defense there was no older generation to get at the time.

You gotta make a decision that you can live with, but I just thought I would paint a slightly different picture for you.

Where can you find the TF101 Dock for $100? Lowest I see is TigerDirect at $120 for a refurbish one. I have been waiting for the inventory of them to make the vendors drop the prices down to the $100 range as everywhere I have seen BB and OD have stacks of docks with virtually no tablets. Pretty soon they will have to have a fire sale on these babies and I will pick one up.

At a TigerDirect store in Canada they told me that all the Transformer Prime's have been pulled back due to the lawsuit with Mattel.

I am happy with my Transformer and by what I understand the Prime suffers from Wifi and geolocation issues.

Well, I bought my TF dock on sale around thanksgiving for 106 on amazon with free shipping. May not always be available at that price is guess.

I just recently read about this online on PCMAG's site. ASUS is also gonna release a sort of Transformer Prime 1.5 later this year that will fix all the problems the Prime was having.
