Auto switching between KB Dock and Preferred Soft Keyboard
Hi all, hope you're all well,
Has anybody seen any way that the TF can be set to automatically switch to the dock keyboard when attached and then automatically switch to your preferred soft keyboard when unattached (mine's Thumb Board).
It's seems to me that this is a failing in Asus implementation of HC, that hopefully will be fixed soon.
Any ideas in the meantime.
Thanks

Hmm thats weird. When Im on the dock it automatically uses the dock keyboard for everything entered and when I undock it goes right to the asus keyboard. Which soft keyboard do you have setup to be used? While I am not an expert on the 2 soft keyboards I do ave good luck with the asus keyboard when in tablet form.

I would second this. I mainly use the Android soft keyboard, and it is tedious to get the "Switch to the Asus keyboard" message every time I connect the dock. The dock still seems to work okay without switching the keyboards, but a lot of the non-key buttons don't. If I use the dock for any length of time, I will switch the the Asus keyboard and then be presented with their horrific (in my opinion) soft keyboard when I undock.
Overall, I am kind of disappointed in the dock. The extra battery is nice, but you have to remember to turn of the touchpad when typing or else go mad. Also, the fact that the CTRL and TAB keys don't work as expected in things like connectbot are a huge disappointment. I was hoping to use this as an easy to carry sysadmin quick fix machine, but I generally end up using the hackers soft keyboard undocked and just keep the dock around for extra battery life or a glorified stand. - 06-23-2011, 03:41 PM

To the two of you whose keyboards switch properly, which are you using? As I originally stated I'm using thumb board and I did wonder if that was part of the problem. Those of you with the same pro lem, which keyboard are you using?
@notserpmh: exactly, well put. May be third party keyboard, but sadly the Asus soft KB is poor compared with thumb board.Last edited by jon_stewart; 06-23-2011 at 03:46 PM.

I also get that messaage because my preferred soft keyboard is Swiftkey. I just ignore the message and use the keyboard dock. When I disconnect the tab, I go with Swiftkey. For those that are using the Asus soft keyboard, the dock is designed to recognize it, so those users won't get the message, and it will be a more seamless experience.
I hope Asus addresses this in a software update. I don't understand why the software keyboard and the hardware keyboard have to be the same for the best experience. I would much prefer for the software keyboard settings to just be disabled when the keyboard dock is connected and for my preferred keyboard setting to be (silently) activated when the dock is disconnected.
Baby steps, I guess...
