Internal Storage not as stated

I recently bought FonePad 8GB, Asian version (incl. rear camera)
When I check the FonePad internal storage, even though it stated 8GB in its spec, I only have 4.47Gb of storage. Means I have lost nearly half of its original storage. Is it only me? Am I being ripped off? Or is it technically normal?

Hope someone can cast a light on this.. Thanks in advance.

Probably normal because of the other preloaded apps?

Yes, I have the 16GB version and it has only 12.47 GB free when new.

I think it is stuff already loaded into ROM, unfortunately there are quite a few apps included, most of which I don't want and can't delete without root.

I discovered the same issue also, is Android OS as big as Windows? has it really taken up half of the storage space? as far as I konw, size of Android 4.1 is just around 384MB only.
the fonepad has a total storage of 4.47GB only, as indicated. meaning that it only has 4GB of ROM (hardware). I think we have been cheated by ASUS.

I think you will find that all operating systems take up 3-4 gb so no you have not been cheated. Iirc Samsung is worse. It just feels worse because you only have 8 gb to start with.
