Bugs with 4.2
Since upgrading to 4.2 I have noticed the following bugs that did not exist before. Anybody else have them and better yet a workaround?
1) Black screen requiring power button hard restart to turn back on every day or two
2) Launcher crashing once or twice a day
3) Feeling like not bragging about 4.2 every time it crashes

Re: Bugs with 4.2
Have you tried a cache partition wipe? This helped with my RAZR Maxx after the ICS update. I don't have the procedure in front of me, but could probably describe it tomorrow.
If it isn't a huge hassle, a factory reset usually helps as well.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
My 300 no longer streams video without constant stuttering and stopping. My DNA works great streaming the same videos so I know it's just the tablet since the update. Any ideas or is a factory reset my only option?

Re: Bugs with 4.2
I am also suffering from video problems, but ones connected with the hdmi.
I get no sounds through the TV
with the hdmi cable plugged in I cannot load any videos. It just hangs waiting. I have to unplug, get the video going, then plug in the hdmi.
I do not find browsing any faster. Dolphin browser hung up and I had to close it down and restart. I think it is still slower then on 4.1.
Stock browser is slower.
I am reluctant to do a factory restart as it takes ages to set everything up.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
It often seems that battery life takes a hit immediately after a system update, but I think it's usually an illusion, because most people will be using the device more after the update to test things out. Starting and stopping apps uses up battery (which is why task killers are generally not recommended).

Re: Bugs with 4.2
I'm getting sound via HDMI. For those who aren't getting sound, is there anything coming from the tablet, or via the headphone jack? Also, check your TV to make sure there isn't some sort of HDMI audio bypass setting--a lot of TVs have this option because people have them connected to home theaters, and turning on the HDMI audio bypass prevents the audio from being duplicated on the TV and the home theater system.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
Thanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately I can't find a setting like that on my Vizio. Plus, it always worked before and I haven't changed anything on the TV. Is there maybe a setting on the tablet that I'm not aware of that might be affecting the sound output? Thanks again.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
I can't find any settings on the tablet. You could consider a factory reset, if it isn't a big hassle. I wish there were a way to clear the cache partition, like you can with many other phones and tablets, but as far as I can tell from Googling the topic, there is no way to do so with stock Android on Transformers.
As for the battery drain--do you have Google Currents installed? If so, change its refresh to manual, or uninstall it completely.Thanked by: - 03-09-2013, 03:17 AM #21
Re: Bugs with 4.2
I have changed nothing on my TV. I plug into my AV amp as well and that does not take the sound. The earphone does work as another commentator has said, he plugs his earphone into the audio sockets of the tv to get it to work.
I hope asus come up with a fix very soon. This has to be very poor quality control to allow such fundamental bugs through.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
I usually try and make a go of it after each update before resetting and generally find out pretty quickly that a reset is needed but so far with 4.2.1 things are better than previous stacked update tries. I'm sure now that I've written that the curse will begin..lol, but I'm OK so far. I use mine daily throughout the day as my main internet resource. My network does the heavy stuff for streaming etc but the Asus is my goto for email, web and reading. I could easily use a tablet fulltime on a trip or vacation.

Re: Bugs with 4.2
Unfortunately I've already done a factory reset, and I don't have Currents installed. Thanks again for the help.
I was on the phone with Asus support last night, and their solution was for me to send them my tablet for 6 weeks, so they could fix the problem. They informed me that my tablet was definitely the problem because when I did the factory reset, it should have put the tab back to the original operating system that it came with (4.03 I believe). I told him that that wasn't true and that that wasn't what a factory reset does. He told me that I was wrong, so I went into a lengthy explanation of how it all works. At the end, he suggested I talk to his supervisor since what I was telling him was way over his head. The supervisor got on the phone 20 minutes later and said the same thing as the level 1 guy. I tried explaining it to him, but he also didn't understand. I know that the technical support people try, but it's frustrating to constantly deal with people who have no idea what they're talking about. I have sent an email requesting that the software developers look into these issues, so we'll see what happens. Asus has been great with updates, so believe it or not, I actually have faith that they will address the problems. Until then, I guess I'll just have to use my Acer 7" for video streaming.

That's really frustrating. I find that Verizon support is just like that, especially the online people. Hope you come to a good resolution.
