It's hard to answer this for someone else. I travel a lot and my company is tracks everything you do do on your laptop. So for me it's a great way to access sites like this while I'm traveling. I did open an excel file just to see how it looks and it was useable. So if your a heavy content creator you might be better off with a full laptop, but a light creator you could be fine.

The CNET review of the laptop shell is enlightening and disappointing. The Engadget review is similar. I'm intrigued by this concept, but not sure it is quite ready to go.

I usually run about 4-5 tabs and performance has been good. I use Google Docs to take notes and it works really well with that.

For that price you can get real laptop lmao.
This "lapdock" should cost around $50 in my opinion.

It sounds like performance is adequate using the Atrix with Lapdock.

What do people think of the

- lapdock interface? Is it easy to change?

- icon layout? is it logical? Is it easy to modify?

- ease of navigation with the touch pad?

- etc?

there is no way you can sell a laptop dock for that cheap without taking 100% losses on it(at minimum).

even without the processor, you're still paying for:
-the shell
-the battery
-the screen

be my guest if you can find all those parts for under $50. keeping in mind that this is a low volume product.

I find that the LapDock is worth it at the package price. I'm happy that I got it as it solves some issue with me sharing time between work, school and personal stuff.

I haven't spent too much time with it, so I don't know the ins and outs yet.

My only gripes so far are:
1. I'd like to be able to hide the dock.
2. I wish the track pad was multitouch or had scroll bars. But nothing using a mouse won't fix.

My only problem with the lapdoc is I feel the keys are to close together but I have to remember that Its just like a netbook not a laptop.

I didn't like the way the keys felt. If you go to an AT&T store, try out the laptop dock for about 5-10 mins and then go to the bluetooth keyboard for the phone they have out for about 5-10 mins...you will notice a HUGE difference. The bluetooth keyboard's buttons feel so much better under your fingers. It looks nicer too. I wish they had used the same material for the laptop dock. The laptop dock felt cheap to me, which I could have gotten over eventually, but navigation on it (without a mouse) was unbearable. The trackpad didn't even have scrolling edges, you have to click the scrollbar on the right hand side of the page, hold it and move up or down. Or left or right on the bottom scrollbar. I felt like I was back in the early 90's. You could also use the arrow keys on the keyboard, which is a lot better, but still, that huuuuge trackpad just have scrolling edges; it's ridiculous that it doesn't.

For the price they're asking, and what it actually offers me, no, I would not get it. Which is why I didn't. It's super expensive (I'm a poor college student wahhh), the keys feels crappy compared to the awesome keys on the bluetooth keyboard, and the navigation is difficult.

What can you do on the laptop dock besides Firefox? Can you install any programs or apps to it?

I was really put off by the price and required tethering so I didn't get one. I heard a 3rd party retailer is selling the phone and dock for $250 with a new contract. This makes it slightly more competitive, but I don't think I'll want to switch from my Nexus one just yet.

I can't remember the name of that retailer though but I'm sure many Android news sites posted about it

I think your referring to, Wirefly which will cease selling products and service for ATT very soon.

As for what all you can do with it. First you can access and run any program installed on your phone. Additionally it offers you the ability to save short cuts to and run Web Apps on the Laptop dock interface.

My suggestion is you visit an ATT store and play with the phone and laptop dock together. This isn't going to be for everyone but for people who's use case is mainly web based apps and services this makes for a nice solution.

Also for those considering this dock, ATT has a 14 day return policy with no stocking fee's as I was told when I purchased mine. I believe for someone to truly decide if it's useful to them, you would need to play with it over a period of time.

I think they are trying to get the price down, in order to drive volume. How do you like it so far? Did the .83 update do anything for the lapdock?

I saw a refurb listed on the ATT site for $199. To me that should be the top for new price and a refurb should be closer to 1/2 to 2/3rds of that.

I got it and I really like it but I find I use my iPad more and so now I have one used only a few times because it doesn't make sense for my lifestyle. I should have brought it back in my 30 days, it's just sitting there BUT it is cool, and firefox is a full version, you can manipulate everything on your phone easily etc.
I will probably put it on ebay soon but it's not from it not being nice there is just only so much I can carry with me.

1. If you find it for less than $200
2. If you know a bit of Linux so you can hack the hell out of it

Well, actually the second one it's not really true or neccesary, you just need to be able to follow instructions LOL...

I managed to hack my Lapdock so now I can do the following (not just Firefox and mirror of phone on desktop):

1. I can create HTML content through BlueFish HTML Editor
2. I can create, read and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents with OpenOffice (soon LibreOffice too).
3. I can manage my sites through Filezilla FTP Client
4. I can create and edit images and photos with GIMP (Photoshop clone)
5. I can customize my desktop to my liking, not just the background

Here's a few screenshots of my desktop (formerly known as Webtop)

So yes, it's really worth it, and thanks to this, I can now leave the heavy laptop @home.

I went today to my local att store and was able to get the lapdock new for $99, I just my atrix in Aug, so I have two more years ahead of me with this phone. We only have one laptop at our house, this is a good option, especially while traveling.
Now where can I find the instructions to do this???!!!

I just found this while looking for some accessories:

$150 + $2 shipping. You can't beat that. The problem with the AT&T $99 deal is that you have to sign up for tethering. Boo!!! No tethering!!!
