Right now, I'm tethering my rooted Evo to my Nook, using Wireless Tether for Root Users market app. I think the only way to tether an unrooted Evo is by paying Sprint $30/month for their Sprint Hotspot.

I'd root that bad boy, but you're welcome to pay Sprint if you'd like.
