Default Nook Color Performance vs Evo Performance

This may be an odd question, but what is the performance of the Nook Color compared to an Evo?

I'm considering getting a Xoom, but a Nook Color at $200 is awfully tempting. I have an Evo and am pretty pleased with it's performance, but it would be nice to be a bit quicker for a tablet.

Will the Nook be faster than the Evo? I'm just a little worried that if I get the NC, I may regret not getting the Xoom if it's not very fast.

I played around with one in the store, but it seemed a bit sluggish. Does rooting improve the performance?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Rooting and overclocking will give you good speeds. I'm at stock evo quadrant scores running nookie off of the SD card

FWIW so far my rooted Nook seems to be running all my apps and games as fast as my Evo.
I have only had this 3 days to play with it. Maybe your experience will be different but so far so good.

I am not running graphically intensive games or anything but for most of my needs I have not even needed to think about overclocking it. I mean I launch programs, they load and run/play, I close then, launch another. It "feels" fine.

I even play videos I have with Rock Player just fine.

I rooted with this method: http://forum.androidcentral.com/barn...ook-color.html

I appreciate the responses so far. If I wanted to watch an online show from say ABC, CBS, etc, does it playback steaming video ok?

the nook plays dungeon defenders much better than my evo!
the nook's chipset is the same as the droid X which has more graphics power than the evo.

for it being early development on the nook color and the speeds are already the same I'd say the nook color will end up being faster.

I am in the same boat. Want a XOOM, but the nook is a great value. I bought the nook, I doubt the price will go down much, so selling it at or near cost should not be hard. I bought it to tide me over till moto/samsung/LG/Toshiba release a good wifi only tablet at the right price.

The Nook color can more than keep up with HD videos from Vimeo and other sources. But, as usually with streaming, the gating factor is the Wifi network and not the display device.

Thanks for all the replies. That makes it even tougher. I was kind of hoping to hear the opposite in some ways, but I'm also glad to hear that at the same time if I choose the NC.

I would say to you just get the Nook Color. The price of the Xoom will only come down and while you wait for that to happen you can enjoy the reasonably priced Nook Color that you can always resell when the Xoom or another tablet come out at you price point. As far as performance goes I haven't had any problems from HD YouTube videos to NFS shift playing on it. Good luck with your decision.
    Enjoy every day.

One other comparison I have a question about if someone has experience, and this may not be a fair comparison.

I have one of the original Dell Mini 9 netbooks that I'm wanting to replace. I think it has the Atom N450 chip with 2gb ram and windows 7 on it. I find surfing (like scrolling) to be very laggy/choppy, and HD videos on full screen are pretty much terrible.

Would the Nook out perform this? I'm pretty sure a Xoom would, and that's the main reason I'm wanting to get a tablet.

The nook should play HD video worlds better than your dell mini, and surfing the net is ust as smooth as it is on your evo.

However, do keep in mind android systems are seen as mobile devices, meaning websites like hulu block there content. The same rules involving online video that apply to your evo apply to the nook atm.

True but there are ways to trick the servers to think the data is requested from a PC etc... The servers only know where the request comes from because of the ID sent to them from the web browser, that is why you can tell Dolphin what user agent to use, Android/Desktop/iphone/ipad whatever... This data is used to tell the web server what format to send the page, mobile etc..

So are you saying there are ways to access netflix or hulu with the NC, or do you mean online video sites?

I just mean it may be possible but I believe they are flash based and as far as I know the only way to get flash on the NC is to use the Froyo, and I assume Honeycomb, ROMS.

People with more knowledge about this than me will post I am sure.

My experience is from the droid X, Ive only had the nook for going on 3 days. From what I understand, when flash first came out for android, there was in fact a way to trick hulu into thinking it was a desktop trying to access its data, and it would work. I know this from firsthand experience. However about a week later they blocked this technique, and last I checked there was no other work around. I am fairly certain that was an OS based and not device based mod to get hulu to work. Its the same story for a few other popular tv show sites. They block it based on the type of flash trying to access the content

Ahhh that makes sense using the flash version, I forgot about that.... Sneaky they are
I wonder why they care where you watch it from...

    Thanks for the info...
