I just purchased a couple Nook HDs for my kids on Black Friday. I wanted to share what I've learned so far. Originally I had looked at rooting or buying a N2A card to run andoid clean like my Nexus but I've discovered that Nook has great parental controls. The parents profile has access to everything and you can lock what can be used by the child. I can share specific apps for the kids, block the web, block app purchases but also allow all that through the adult profile. This is great. I'm unsure of use of some of the child lock apps on android, like the one that blocks use during certain hours. I plan on checking that out. So far I've been please but I only got it today and added a few apps for them.

Yes, I used kid profiles on my NookHD+ to control the content my young kids have access too vs the fully open adult profiles. It's a nice feature. Haven't really checked out how well it works with Google Play installed content yet though.
