Samsung galaxy s5 battery problems

Heavy usage, battery drained really fast and I had only 2 hours of screen time. Is this normal?

It isn't great. Is your cell signal always good? Poor signal can be a big drain on battery.

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

From those screens, it looks like you're on track for about 5 hours of screen-on time, which isn't too bad. But another thing is that your cell signal doesn't seem very good. 23% time without signal is pretty significant, and it means your cell radio is using more battery to try to latch onto signal.

Yep, % Time without Signal means the percent of Cell Standby time that the cell radio can't find any signal at all. This can lead to significant battery drain. And that doesn't count the time when signal is present but very weak--which also leads to battery drain. You can get an idea of how strong your signal has been by tapping on the battery graph to get the fullscreen graph. You'll see a bar at the bottom signifying cell signal, and anything besides green is suboptimal.

What provider do you have? Some providers have worse coverage than others, obviously, so if your home or work is in an area of poor coverage, you may have to consider switching providers, if it's important to you. Providers often offer signal boosters for home, if you have poor reception there--however, signal boosters usually only activate when you actually make a call. When the phone is idle, the signal remains low. Call your provider for more information.

Re: Samsung galaxy s5 battery problems

I've noticed quite a bit of drain on mine overnight. I reloaded the phone yesterday. Noticed VZ cloud using a bit during the day so I stopped that. Other than that it drained 40% overnight. Take a look at the screen shots and let me know what you think.

On a side note, just switched from the s4 and did not have this type of problem.

Thanks for this marvelous info! Unfortunately my phone is locked so I can't change network providers, but this one has the best signal. In my house, cell reception is pretty horrid, but in school it's pretty okay.

Right now, since I don't use SMS in my house, I think I'll just turn on airplane mode.

I'd like to also explain that the second best network provider in my country provides great cell signal in the provinces (undeveloped regions). I live in the most urban places if my country and my cell provider has the best cell reception in the big cities.

Re: Samsung galaxy s5 battery problems

Since Android System encompasses so many things, it can be hard to pinpoint what exactly it's doing to contribute to battery drain. A reboot in those situation often helps--let us know if it persists afterwards.

If you play that too much it will drain a lot like for example in my case I play brave frontier equally addictive and my battery drain like 10% in 30 mins and then I have to plug in.try not to use it too often.if battery drain still occurs go get a replacement good luck:))

Re: Samsung galaxy s5 battery problems

Okay guys, so it turns out to be a normal thing. Last question though and it's a little bit out of topic, does leaving multi windows on drain battery life?

Here's a big problem, everytime I have my device idle, even when there's great signal, cell stand by will always appear. Is this normal?
