My phone shuts down when the battery meter shows 20-30 remainder, why?

My phone shuts down when the battery meter shows 20%-30% remainder

Power saving mode is supposed to engage when my battery reaches 15%, but lately my phone has been powering off when the battery reaches ~24%. Any advice before I do a factory reset?

It sounds like the battery isn't calibrated properly. How long have you had the phone? Sometimes batteries can start to go bad and do this.
