My S3 battery went from lasting 2 days to 4 hours

S3 battery life was great, then one day would only last a few hours. Replaced with new Samsung battery, same problem. Battery drains in hours. Also, phone sometimes shuts off with 50% battery. Will not restart unless on charger. What's going on? I have done nothing different on phone use, apps, etc. Mainly a phone and a little internet.

When you need to recharge, what do your battery usage stats indicate as the main users of charge during that preceding period?

Android system 29%, screen 25%. Haven't been on the phone lately, if I have, phone is at ~30%, system 10

It looks like Android System is using too much charge. First, try a Cache Partition wipe. Tell us what that does.

Also, make sure you charge to 100% plus at least 15 minutes. ("!00%" on the charger is actually about 98% charge), and don't let it drop below 30% before recharging.

Post a screenshot of the battery stats page (see How To Post Screenshots on Android Central), then tap the graph at the top and post a screen shot of that page. (A weak mobile signal can kill a battery quickly.)
