Default bionic often gets so slow as to be unusable

I even rooted last night and that made it worse. rebooted and it went back to usual sluggish, but usable self. then i shut it off for the night. rebooted this morning and it was unusable again. another reboot and it got back to "normal". I can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong with this POS. oh and I did a factory reset after the rooting last night so obviously that wasnt the answer.

one more thing: since rooting I don't get the familiar menu (hold down all 3 buttons during boot) so I can't find the "clear cache" option.

(this POS has been sitting unused for many months, as I couldn't stand to use it as my phone any longer.)

When you rooted did you by chance install a custom recovery, such as Clockwork Mod?

Recovery is accessed by pressing and holding both volume up + volume down then press and hold power. Here is a youtube video showing how to access recovery:

Factory reset should also help with the sluggishness. It's a good device, but Sense may be the issue as it's intensive and tends to cause device slow down (imo), especially on older devices. You might want to consider using a third-party launcher and see if there is any improvement as well. I would imagine some sort of improvement with the device.

    That's the screen I see.
With or without nova it's horrifically slow on some boots and normal other reboots. I did reset last night...

My god, this phone is so pathetic. even after rebooting and getting normal responses to button presses like open apps, the internet connectivity is once again ultra slow, as in taking minutes for things that should take less than 2 seconds. this happened before i took the phone of out service last year. anyone have any ideas? google hasn't been of any help to me as I've searched so many times for a solution to this issue over a long period of time.

not only the super slow connectivity, but the connection issues for the Play Store are also long standing. i average about 5 attempts for every update of an app before the error code in the Play Store (927) stops preventing the start of a download.

Of course I have done all the usual things to try to fix the PS error like clearing the PS cache and data, restarting etc etc.
