Can you not pay for a few months?

Hi,

I am looking for a carrier and phone for a parent that may only use the phone for a month or so 2 or 3 times a year. Can we shut off service for 3-6 months? Will we be able to retain the number? Is there any charge while the service is not being used?

There is an option to suspend service with a lot of carriers. I am not 100% sure with Cricket.

Many carriers will allow you to pause or suspend service for varying period of times. Contacting Cricket would be the way to get this answered. Another option would be to get a Google Voice number that you can associate with any carrier number you want. You give the google number to people, it never changes, and calls from whatever carrier can always be forwarded to that number/device.
