When my old man retired and started a new hobby as a birdwatcher I decided to support his hobby by developing an app for birdwatchers.

He's a general hiker/outdoorsy type. I remember when the Audubon app for bird watching was free on the Amazon Appstore and I let him know--he was pretty happy with that!
