More release date speculation

So I saw this article over on Droid-Life:

A lot of the speculation for the DB has been an Aug 4th in store release date with online orders assumed to be starting July 28th. I'm just curious (because I honestly don't know what the history is with VZW) if they would have a new tablet AND a new phone launching on the same day, especially since both are LTE.....

Just wanted to see what anyone else thinks on this.

The lack of any real leaks has left me skeptical. We've gotten some good leaks recently, but with the Droid 3 we had accessory pages leaked 3 weeks before launch. We lucked out with a display, but what was inside the display? A silhouette of the device just letting us know it's coming soon. Once those are actually in store I think we'll be closer to a release date. I don't want to say it, but I think late Aug/early Sept is when we will really be seeing the Bionic launch.

I agree 100% with what irl Panda said above.. the lacks of any real leaks has gotten me very skeptical. I am starting to believe that a late august/early September release for the droid bionic would be more realistic.

Was the pic of that display not in a store? I was thinking that it was, but maybe I misread that piece when it came up at the end of the week....

Seemed like it was in a store, but taken by a Verizon employee. Leads me to believe that some stores have them, but don't have them actually displayed yet. Just my opinion on it, though.

Maybe they are just waiting to display them so that they wont constantly have people asking what is coming soon and hold out for that phone rather than get a phone now.

True. I was trying to keep up my optimism that the phone will be released sooner than later, so was hoping the display was actually setup in the store.

Figure if they're actually putting them in the stores, might not be as likely VZW would let them sit around with a "coming soon" silhouette for close to a month. Here's to hoping that Aug 4th is legit!!

I stopped in to one of my local stores in the mall. There was no display to be found. Of course, the Galaxy Tab 4g wasn't mentioned anyplace either but I don't think all of the stores are utilizing that specific display.

I'm still hopeful! But two major LTE launches on the same day?

Well the thing is the Bionic won't be released on the 28th, preorders will start (hopefully). I think we could see it on the 28th

wasnt the original "aug 4" date based on the unconfirmed costco screenshot to begin with? i feel like that fueled the "aug 4" date rumors.....which means i wouldnt be surprised if this was delayed until sept (i believe this was reported on HOFO by a few of their insiders)

the original leak was not named. Sams Club and Cost co look very similar it would seem. Things aren't looking positive though.

Edit. They changed the front page. I thought that looked like Sams Club. Not sure how quickly they get phones so it doesn't look as bad as i thought.

Just to keep my false hopes alive - isn't it possible that Verizon will still release it August 4th, but is withholding it from 3rd party dealers for a while; haven't they done this in the past, probably to keep the price up? That would be about 3 - 3 1/2 weeks of being exclusive to Verizon...just saying, just hoping!

I do think this is true. I have a friend that works at Staples in their new mobile phone area and he said they just got the Droid 3 last week. I imagine third party retailers receive them around the same time.

The D3 launched at the end of last week (unless you count Sunday as the beginning of the week). That would still mean a September or late August launch by comparison. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you guys have to remember that they started this phone from scratch. They didn't pick up where they left off with the Etna. The Targa had a Q3 release date, and they are still on time so far.

Costco is getting the Droid 3 this coming Thursday. My brother is waiting very impatiently. That's 2 weeks after the official in-store VZW release. Just saying.

But this news does not mean that it will affect the Verizon Release.. Although I do not think it will be the 4th. I still think that it will be released in Mid to late August!!!

Location seems to be a variable in determining when Costco gets the phone. So far we are seeing between 1-2 weeks. Pre-orders on the 4th seem slightly more plausible than the 28th.
