Mine varies. My houses first floor is a signal black hole so it tops out at 8 down. On the second floor, it tops out at the speeds you're getting.
On the street its a whole other story with 15-20 down, easy.

Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
Mine will varie depending where I am.
Worst has been 3 down, and 1 up.
My best has been 32 down, and 7 up. - 09-13-2011, 08:47 AM #9
Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
Mine are varying wildly here in at work, in Charleston, WV. I am hitting 2-4 bars of 4g, and tests have been a low of 4 down, and a high of 13 down, and averaging a consistent 2 up. But this is WV, and Vz hates us... The 4g has been wonky since it went live, from what I understand. With all the hills and valleys, our signal gets eaten up pretty quickly. One day I will have 4g in my living room, the next day, 3g only.

Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
The 4g switch was just flipped here in northern IL (cue happy dance!), so...
In my bomb shelter of an office (seriously - 6ft thick limestone walls) - 5 down and 1 up.
In my kitchen at home - 14 down and 5 up - 09-13-2011, 09:53 AM #11

Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
11.9 d / 3.23 u
I've only ran it a few times, and only get 2 bars here at work. I'll try it when I have full bars and see what I get. - 09-13-2011, 12:16 PM #14
Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
Off topic (sorry no 4G where I live):
How far SE? I go to Phoenix on business frequently and got the Bionic in part in hopes of 4G coverage in Tolleson and Chandler. If its 3G its not the end of the world, but my phone takes a BEATING for about 3 hours straight CONSTANT data, and the 4G speed would/will be SOOOOOO nice. - 09-13-2011, 02:01 PM #15
Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
One thing I discovered when doing speed tests is to much sure you try different servers. I'm in western IL and my default server was in Aurora, IL. To that server, I was only getting about 10 DL and 3 UP. When I switched to a server in Madison, WI I am now getting close to 20 DL and 5 UP. And this is repeatable, so it's not just a one-time fluke. Could be congestion to the specific server, or could just be an overloaded server. But it's probably best to do tests to several different servers and take an average to get a better idea of your actual speed.

I live in SE Gilbert and drive all over the metro area. I have the Charge and have consistent 4g inside the 101 and 202 and I-10. That encompasses most of the metro area. I've heard your 4g radio/firmware is a little more stable so you may do better.
I consistently do above 10 down and about 6 up

Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
LTE just went live in the Quad City (IL/IA) yesterday morning, so I've naturally been thoroughly testing it out. I'm averaging about 10 mbps down and 4-5 mbps up, but I've had peaks well above 20 mbps and valleys as low as 5 mbps. Strangely, there doesn't appear to be a direct correlation between speed and number of bars of reception. There are times when I have only a bar or two of reception and still get well over 10+ mbps. And there have been times when I have 3-4 bars only get around 5. Generally speaking, though, usually the more bars the faster the speed, but not always (not sure why).
Also, my first speed test with the app usually seems to be slower than subsequent ones. For example, my first speed test might be 5-7 mbps down, but if I run it again, it'll bump up to 15-20. Not sure if that's just a natural ramp-up of the radio or what? - 09-14-2011, 02:57 PM #24
Re: what kind of 4g speeds are you all getting
I also live in Philly(Center City). I went to the Verizon store 3 blocks away to check out the Bionic. The manager is trying it out and said that he is getting about 6..don't know about how many bars, but he also said he is getting 6 on this Charge too...so it might be the network and not the phone.

I have had as high as 25/6 and as low as 6/2. Ninety percent of my speed tests are 14/4 though.
