Is there any way on the bionic to Tap to focus like on the Droid x2 where u hold the shutter button and it focuses?

Thanks for that. I kept trying to tap it to focus. I didn't realize you had to drag it. Doh!

The zoom is only a digital zoom, so it's not really adjusting the optics of the camera. You're only blowing up the original image. So you would just have to set the focus before zooming in.

Personally, I never touch the zoom controls on a digital zoom only camera. It just degrades the image quality.

True. Digital zoom is essentially cropping on the fly. You're better off taking the full sized picture and cropping after the fact.
