Default Phone has become slow, links unresponsive, gps lock takes forever

    Hi,

Is it time for a factory reset? (Please say no!) My Bionic has been acting weird the past few weeks - in general the phone is slower, everything seems slightly less responsive. Links in the browser just stop working - I can click on them and nothing happens. GPS takes forever to lock on now. I have no idea how/when exactly this started or if it was an app that I downloaded and updated.

Is anyone else having similar issues? Is resetting the phone my only option??

    Thanks!

I'd clear cache out of all your apps and system apps first. Settings -> Applications -> Manage Appications All

Also clean out your texts and old email's to free up space as well.

This should help some - if not then you might have to do a reset.
Some say that his dormant chips were left that way for YOUR SAFETY... Others say that once "turned on," he can not be turned off... All we know is... He's called The Stig.

Sometimes wiping the cache partition helps to...

When your phone is completely off

Push the power vol up and vol down buttons all at the same time. You will then get a menu choose recovery.... On the screen with the Android guy push vol up and vol down at the same time. This will give you another menu.... Choose wipe cache partition... Then reboot.

Also like the previous guy said clean app cache as well. This will not delete any data... I use 1 click cleaner from the play store and it will clear all the apps cache at one time. Also it will delete all txt messages except the picture messages.

Also use something like start up cleaner to prevent apps from starting up when the phone is launched... Just don't turn off anything that needs to start like email or txt or something that you want to to get a notification in.

    Hope that helps!

I have not had the slowness issue, but since the latest OTA update, my GPS also takes forever to lock (several minutes). Previously it seemed to lock in after only a few seconds.

Can anything be done to speed up getting GPS to lock in to the satellites?

    Thanks.

Some say that Maps behave better if you go to settings>manage Apps>Maps and uninstall the update there (might also want to un-check Auto Update in Play Store), but my choice is to use 'GPS Status & Toolkit' from Play Store. Once it is open, Menu>Tools>Manage A-GPS state>Reset, then go back into Tools>Manage A-GPS and Download.

That will give you fresh coordinates from the web and the GPS lock should be much improved for a day or so. Re-run it again if/when the lock gets slow again.

Thanks. Tried the app but it didn't help. Still several minutes to GPS lock.

Has anyone had trouble with GPS NOT locking at all or only locking when actively using navigation? I have a golf GPS app (Swing by Swing) that I use but have noticed that I have to have GPS on AND the navigation app working and actually tracking.

had same issues described above. things use to run quickly & smoothly and now have slowed significantly. and gps won't lock. I've done all that was suggested here and have noticed some improvement so thanks everyone. i deleted about half my texts, stopped unnecessary apps from opening, cleaned cache & cache partition...still slower than i'd like to be. i'm satisfied somewhat that things are a bit faster so i think i can wait until ICS before i go through with resetting it altogether

Just for the record, I know this thread is old, I had similar problems caused by old apps from my Droid X installed onto new Razr Maxx HD. In particular, a program called "Startup Auditor" was causing at least half of my problems. Start fresh. If problems, factory reset and remove all apps. And when you get new phone, don't assume any of your favorite apps will work on new phone.
