Data dropping issue
My Bionic within the last couple weeks has developed a serious issue with dropping data and I cant figure out why. It only does it when I try to use mostly Facebook app, it will just drop to white like its lost connection, now if I pull my browser and use the internet on it, its perfectly fine, only is having this problem with some apps. Any ideas what could be the cause or fix?

Re: Data dropping issue
I have had 4 replacement phones because of this exact issue. I have been offered replacement phones(different model of phone), but I'm not sure what i want to do yet. There really isn't a fix for it that i know of. Verizons "fix" is to send you a new phone that will do the exact same thing.

Re: Data dropping issue
I say try to be patient until the ics roll out. I sometimes have that issue with 4G and almost everyone running the ics leaks report the connection issue has gone away. So that may be all you need too.

Re: Data dropping issue
Yea, I was thinking that may hopefully fix it, because I started thinking about it and my phone was awesome for staying on 4G up until this most recent update they pushed out to us, the problems started right after I got it.

Re: Data dropping issue
I don't know if this is typical, but I travel a lot in my region and noticed the signal issues are usually worse in bigger metropolitan areas with 4G. I.E. where I live in Green Bay, WI, around the Twin Cities, Madison and Milwaukee, WI too. Yet when I get out in rural areas that have 4G, I hardly have any issues at all. If anything, you'd think it would be reversed. Have the more stabilized/optimized networks in the major cities and deal with the rural ones later.

Look at my post
Possible 905 data fix..
Basically 905 messed up my data.... After trying new sim card and calling motorola and Verizon I just decided I couldn't take it any longer and flashed ics leak 232.... After that all my data issues are gone...
I must say ics rocks on my bionic and it's much faster.

Re: Data dropping issue
Narok, I'm in the same boat with data signal loss and CAN"T FRIGGIN stand it! 2 Bionics to date and hate this phone with a passion. I was tempted to get the SG3, but figured, it too, will suffer the same 4G/3G handoff and be a pain in the arse too

I've heard you don't have to be rooted for the ICS 232 leak and was wondering if you can let me know how you did it? Or if there's a link somewhere, that would be great too!
Thanks... - 07-24-2012, 06:46 AM #8
Very simple to install ics .232
#1 no root is needed....in fact I think bone stock .905 is best...
#2 you will lose all info that is not on the external sd card....putting ics......backup everything that you want to save.....
#3 do a search for "bionic ics .232 leak".....it's not hard to find....you just have to look.....download the file......
#4 the ics file will download to your internal sd card....you need to move or copy to your external sd card "EXT-SD" ......
#5 you then need to boot into stock recovery.....to do this turn tube phone off and hold both up and down volume buttons....then push the power button.....use the down volume once I think to highlight recovery....then hit the up volume button and that will select it.....then you will see a triangle with an exclamation point pop up.....don't freak lol.....just press both volume keys at the same time.....this will bring up a menu....use the down volume key to get to "install from sd card"....may be update from sd card but I think it's install.....once that is highlighted use the power button to select it......then scroll down to your .232 file....hope you wrote down or remembered the name lol.....it should be a zip file.....use the power button to select it....it will then say these changes cannot be undone and ask if you want to proceed.....this is crap lol....
#5 once ics is all loaded you will have a phone that looks like one you didn't have before.....you will have to enter all your Google info and all that jazz.....
I don't think I left anything out....just remember to backup all that you wanna keep and that when you move the ics file from internal sd card to external sd that it says that it is a zip file.....if not just rename it ics123.zip I have had to do that before......any other questions or if you need more info just shout......enjoy your ics - 07-25-2012, 04:56 PM #9
Re: Data dropping issue
im having this same problem. i love my phone to death, have it rooted and customized just the way i like it. however the last week my data has been dropping like crazy and its frusterating. is there any known causes of this or solutions. I dont really want to run ICS, since im rooted and setup already. Is that the only fix? if so, will running ICS basically take my phone back to stock?

Re: Data dropping issue
ICS will not erase any info...
I was 100 percent stock on GB 905 and flashed the ICS 232 leak and it retained all of my settings, icon positions, saved games ect...
I didnt have to do anything major... a few minor setting due to the differences in GB and ICS... But 99 percent of everything was the same. - 07-29-2012, 02:54 AM #11
Wow.. I started searching today for answers to this exact problem when I found this place and here you guys are with my same problem. It's been going on about two weeks and like the OP mentioned I think Facebook for Android may have caused it I'm not sure?? My 4G stays up from blue to white but stops downloading, losses internet connection from page to page, the play store is near impossible.
Although I'm phone challenged those directions don't seem to bad for the ics leak I may go that route my phone may not live another week like this. How long have you used the ics?

Re: Data dropping issue
ICS on the Bionic is GREAT. I put it on yesterday after being tired of data drops on 4g and overall phone lag. This WILL fix your data drops. It is easy to do (download and install one file) and IMO worth doing now- forget waiting for Verizon to launch it OTA- you can have the problem solved and a faster phone right now

Don't bother with any other solution offered by VZW other than ICS update when it eventually comes.

Re: Data dropping issue
Soul/others... I think I want to take the plunge with the ICS .232 leak but I don't know what app(s) to use for backup purposes? I've never rooted my phone, done much tinkering with it, but I've heard of apps like Titanium, etc? Are these what you guys use too??
I feel like I want to make sure everything is backed up before I proceed any further!
Thanks everyone! I can't wait!! - 08-07-2012, 08:40 PM #15

Re: Data dropping issue
WOW WOW!!!
Thanks so much to Soul/MOS!! I installed the ICS .232 leak about an hour ago and it was a breeze! Only had to reboot once?! I thought it was like 3 times or something..
But when it loaded up, EVERYTHING I had (apps/data) were all intact and still are!
For the last month or so, I've had to turn my signal to CDMA only because the handoff b/t 4G/3G was atrocious and usually I would end up with no signal! But on the ICS reboot, I was already in 4G mode and downloaded about 18app updates from the market and everything has been perfect.. so far!
True test will be travelling and going to work tomorrow and see around town how the signal issues go, but sounds like everyone on ICS leak said this is now fixed!!
Thanks again.. It's so true that ICS will breathe NEW life into your Bionic and now I want to keep it for a while
