Default Droid Charge Windows Drivers (w/ Direct download)

For anyone with a new Droid Charge looking for the drivers, they aren't up on Samsung's site as an available download. Needless to say, if you want to root your phone, you're going to need them to be able to use adb. When you plug your phone into your PC, it is likely going to show up as a CD-ROM device (this baffles my as to why they do this). Open up the new cd drive, and you should be able to get the drivers you need from there. After that, it will be happy rooting.

This info doesn't seem to generate much interest right now, but guaranteed to when more ppl get their charge.
I can just see ppl screaming "WE CAN'T GET DRIVERS!! HOW DO WE ROOT???"

Thanks imnuts for this valuable information.

I will be happy to donate to the development cause, custom kernel's and a GB ROM are what I seek, heck ASOP ROM would be best and get rid of the TouchWiz so you can put any launcher on without wasting space.

can you explain the directions to get this driver installed? I've tried to get it installed and seems like I can't get it to work right

Click on the drive that mounts when you connect your phone as charge only. It will ask if you want to install drivers.

I did that but it seems like when I turn on the usb debug on it doesn't recognize it again
I'm trying to root the phone but adb can't access the phone and I think it's the driver problem.

turn off usb debugging to pull the drivers from the phone. turn it back one once they are installed.

What do you mean pull the driver from the phone?

When you mount the phone windows should see a virtual drive. Open it and it will recommend you install drivers for the Charge.

I installed drivers from the phone as suggested (I'm on Vista 32bit) but when I turn USB debugging back on, it continues to ask me for the driver. It doesn't seem happy with any directory I point it at. Any other suggestions much appreciated!

So after much futzing around I was finally able to pull the driver package off my Droid Charge. It's an 8.1MB .exe package which is too large to attach here but if you need it, PM me and I'll email it to you.

--any generic "Samsung USB driver for Mobile Phones" driver will also work so google it.
--Also make sure to use the cable provided with the phone, i was using a cable which came with my camera and it wasnt letting windows recognize the phone properly.

With Linux you shouldn't need drivers to hook up the phone for ADB.

I'm trying to get the samsung droid charge driver for windows 64bit, but when I click on the direct download link I just get an error message. I found a few other links in this forum and they do the same thing. Any help would be great. Thank you.

I can confirm this, I used the cable from my previous HTC Thunderbolt and my Charge would not go into mass storage mode but did it immediately with the cable it came with.

I want to ask why the heck is that!? Shouldn't all microUSB cables be the same? Please explain this to me!

I went to root tread and that link brings up the same error message. I think this site must be down: http://droidxcon.moregeekforless.com...USB_Driver.exe and that is where all the links take me. I am using the original cord that came with the droid charge. Any other thoughts on where I can find the droid charge driver for windows. Thanks for the help.
