Jcase has decided to release his exploit. You can downgrade and root. Search xda.

Anybody have a link or advice on how to enable the wifi tethering once the phone is unlocked? Sorry, total noob here and just need pointed in the right direction. There's so much BAD info out there I find when searching...

Settings - Wireless & Networks - More... - Tethering & Mobile Hotspot - Mobile Hotspot

There ya' go, no need to install another app, it's already part of the ROM

Not correct.

Well, because of the way mfive asked the quetsion "enable the wifi tethering once the phone is unlocked?" I think it's safe to asume that mfive is asking about enabling tethering on an unlimited plan which does not have the tethering included which makes Keith Garwick recommendation "Settings - Wireless & Networks - More... - Tethering & Mobile Hotspot - Mobile Hotspot" is wrong.

Enabling tether (Settings - Wireless & Networks - More... - Tethering & Mobile Hotspot - Mobile Hotspot) after obtaining root on a Verizon plan that does not have tethering included will result in a message requesting you to surbscribe. In order to make native tether to work, VZWEntitlementServices.apk must be modified so it does not "call home" to verify the entitmement (the entitlment System DB hack no longer works on 4.4 and up, as far as I remeber).

Follow instructions from this thread to get native tether to work after root: [MOD][ROOT]Native Tether for Kit Kat 19.5.3 - xda-developers

will i be able to use other carriers if i root my droid maxx and will it work good

You already can use the Maxx on any other carrier, it is SIM unlocked out of the box. Root nothing to do with it. Might not do LTE on all carriers, though HSPA works.

My comment is correct. If you have additional information to offer then goodie for you. Don't be rude.

To be honest, I think that you're being too sensitive. I didn't see anything rude about the reply. He was merely pointing out that your advice was incomplete.

This root method doesn't work if you've taken the recent April update 19.63.

Instructions for downgrading are in a post on page 4 of the xda thread for the exploit.

This post on XDA appears to make the root permanent even though jcase's post sways it's tethered and won't survive a reboot.

I'm going to try it tonight.

I looked through the thread but did not find if this same process could be used on the maxx HD XT926 model. Does anyone know?

You said you were able to unlock bootloader on a December 2013 build date.

Is this the "build" date or the "assembly" date? If it is the "build" date, would you please post the exact date?

Question, I ended up at the same point as you. Although I receive a message that the phone has processed the unlock code. No reboot and no blinking. What did you do to get it to work? Still have status of Locked 0

Thanks

One issue I have and I'm not sure if it is due to to my 4.4 root, is when the hotspot is on my Bluetooth connects and disconnects.

I haven't done this myself, but, based on your screenshot, I believe that you enter the unlock code without the brackets. Just type the unlock code after the space after the word "unlock" without the square brackets. The square brackets I think just mean that the code is optional, because some phones (Nexus phones) can be unlocked with just "fastboot oem unlock". The code is required for phones like the Droid Maxx.

Thanks for the reply, the line above the command actually contains the code the Chinese guy provided. The phone registers that unlock oem has been sent to it but nothing changes
