I have always used the stock texting app. What is the use of using any other like kik, whats up etc. when they do the same as the one that comes with the phone.

I have typically used the stock one. When I got my N5 there was no stock messaging app as it was Hangouts, so I loaded Textra. It is a nice alternative.

I've been using EvolveSMS along with Push Bullet since they added the feature to text from the Chrome extension. Since Hangouts was giving me problems with notifications, this is probably the best alternative I could find. The actionable notifications are a huge plus, too.

If Hangouts didn't have problems displaying notifications until I actually entered the app, I'd be using Hangouts, though.

I'm still using Handcent. But, I'm really wondering if it's all that. Seems troublesome sometimes. Also.... Seems redundant to use apps, that data mine, for things the OS does ok.
