New to the M and can't update your device?
I don't want to copy and paste everything in here but for those having an issue downloading updates see this thread for the RAZR Maxx HD.
[SOLVED] Firmware Update won't download on RAZR HD, RAZR Maxx HD and RAZR M (I'm on 4.0.4)
Update won't download (I'm on 4.0.4) (Edit: SOLVED)
The issue is the update will hang and never download due to a Motorola server issue. One person has confirmed that the RAZR M suffers from this too so for those not checking the HD forum I wanted to share.
