Is it possible to put Jelly Bean 4.2 on the Razr Maxx HD?
Hi,
I'm kind of lost when it comes to hacking android, rooting and all that. Apologies if this question has been asked before buI would like a straightforward simple question. Is it possible today to put Jelly Bean 4.2 on the Razr Maxx HD if its an unlocked version? - 11-03-2012, 09:36 PM #2

Development hasn't really gone viral on the device as of yet. Its just a matter of time.

I'm kind of confused, does putting ROMs on your phone mean that you can get the latest version of android on your phone like the nexus lineup?

Pretty much. You'll get whatever the dev builds into the rom. Its always best to look St the features and a changelog when its available. Jakeday will be releasing another build later tonight. So wait if you can. His method also does not require root to flash. Your computer does all of the work for you.

I love the Droid Razr Maxx HD but the bloatware and lack of jelly bean is a put off. Does this flashing stuff mean that I can use the phone pretty much like a Nexus device? Do the unofficial latest ROMs get released fast like on Nexus devices?

You won't get quicker releases than an aosp device like the nexus.
The releases will come but they take time.

Hmmm, so does the old Droid Razr Maxx have jelly bean yet?
Once you get this custom Rom how is a Maxx HD different from a nexus device software wise? I know that in terms of hardware it's quite a bit better

Re: Is it possible to put Jelly Bean 4.2 on the Razr Maxx HD?
It's mostly based on personal preference. Most android abusers don't like Motorola Devices due to the fact that software releases take so long. As to where Google branded devices get software releases before anything else will. Motorola doesn't have a large dev community like the nexus does either.
As for the maxx and jelly bean. I believe there is a JB rom or 2 out there. Although some of them were still a little buggy. I had cm10 flashed on my maxx but went back to an ICS rom. To me I'm very happy with ICS. But jb is right around the corner.

Re: Is it possible to put Jelly Bean 4.2 on the Razr Maxx HD?
I have been running it since Friday. No need to root since it is an honest to goodness leak, just sideload from an SD Card. It runs well. Things are a bit smoother, it fixed a screen glitch I had, I think it introduced a small SMS glitch, but overall runs well. It does kill the battery a bit quicker. I can now only get 24 hours where I used to get a day and a half out of a charge.

Re: Is it possible to put Jelly Bean 4.2 on the Razr Maxx HD?
ROM'ing your phone is nice for some people, but you always lose certain functionalities... it's up to the end user to decide if that loss is acceptable or not. So if you're big on having the most up to date android version as humanly possible, but can live without whatever functionalities are buggy, then that ROM is for you. On the flip side, however, if the buggy functionalities and lack thereof is not an acceptable loss even with the most current version of Android, then that ROM is probably not a good fit for you.
I personally haven't come across a single ROM I like, but that's just me and my own picky preferences... Novice users who haven't ROM'd before should just be aware they need to actually read everything in an OP for whatever ROM they're interested in, since reading seems to be such a hard thing to do for so many people whom want to make their device unique to them. - 01-06-2013, 05:28 PM #15

It's obviously been a few months since you posted this, but have you now been successful at rooting?
