Default How to use the WiFi Direct function?

The other day, a co-worker was trying to send me a bunch of large audio files (an entire audio book.) We could have done this quickly with a USB wire, but I was curious to try the WiFi Direct feature. He has a rooted Galaxy Nexus with the latest Cyanogen mod. I have a stock Droid RAZR HD with latest Verizon android update. We were able to see the others' devices, could send an "invite" to the other person etc. But neither of use could figure out how to send a file over WiFi Direct.

Supposedly once you establish a WiFi Direct connection, that should enable a new menu choice in certain apps, like the File Manager, so you can "send" a file via the WiFi link. Theoretically you select a file(s), open your menu and choose "Send over WiFi Direct." We never could figure out how to make it work.

Has anyone used this feature before and can explain what you did? We were thinking his rooted mod software was to blame; maybe it didn't support that feature. I know very few people with an Android phone so my chances to "play" with this feature are very limited. Thanks.

Have you figured it out yet? I have a razr maxx, too and your message got me curious. Turns out moto didn't design an app that makes use of the feature but there are a few on the Google Play Store that work great. I've used Wifi Shoot and SuperBeam successfully.

You first establish a connection as you already did and then use the share function on a file browser app to send the file like in the my files app on the galaxy phones/tablets or the file browser in polaris office or the like.
