From Maxx to Maxx HD

I am going from the Razr Maxx to the Razr Maxx HD can I use the same sim card ?

As long it is the same size. You can buy a sim adapter for a few bucks on eBay if different or just go to Verizon and they will give you a new sim for free. I ordered mine over the phone when I switched between my rezound and nexus. I had to get the adapter since I switch between both devices.

Guess I just thought they would be the same size , never gave it a thought it wouldn't be.

Yes.

Went from OG Maxx to Razr HD same sim card.
Just make sure you start up in the factory reset state on the new device so it is clean.

Can that start up be done with out a sim card installed ?
I am buying the Maxx HD from a friend.

No, I don't believe so. If no SIM card is installed, the phone will not let you progress beyond the first startup screen and you'll only be able to call 911

I guess I am unclear on how to do this in the Factory reset state

Since you are buying it from a friend, you need to do the following.

To reset your device:

1. From the home screen of your phone, press the Menu button

2. Tap Settings

3. Scroll down and tap Privacy

4. Tap Factory Data Reset

5. Check Erase internal storage if you would like to erase all the data on the phone internal storage such as applications, music, movies or photos.

6. Tap Reset Phone

Power down again.
Then install your SIM and reboot.
