I use 6 MB to match the screen. I do this to conserve SD card memory space. Also, if you print this size to a 4" X 6" print it is plenty of resolution.
I don't think you can get rid of it. I like it. It's a quick way to access the gallery.
Some more tips I learned over the past months.
1. Before you snap the shot, always tap the screen to cause the camera to pre-focus on the area you want to have in focus..
2. Make use of the exposure setting in mid to low light situations. I frequently bump it up to 0.7 or even 1.0. It's easily accessible.
3. Assign the volume rocker to be the shutter release (you can do this in camera Settings) This will allow you to use both hands to hold the camera when taking a picture rather than holding with one hand and tapping the on-screen shutter with the other hand. Since this camera's software does not utilize the hardware's image stabilization (please, Motorola get on this!) sometimes you get blurry shots. With the shutter assigned to the volume rocker I hold the camera in my right hand with my right index finger depressing and holding the volume rocker. Then I use my left hand index finger to tap on the screen to pre-focus. Then I use my left hand to hold the camera and slowly ease off the volume rocker with my finger to take the shot.
I've done a lot of experimenting with my phone's camera and posted a lot about it. If you want to read more use this forum's search function, plugging in my screen name and camera as a keyword. (Also on other forum's as well.)
