two things...when I go into storage, is it weird that my internal storage says total space 8GB, available space 8GB? I thought it was 16GB?

Also, most probably won't find this as annoying but I'm coming from a blackberry, so having control over notifications is key for me. I like to set my phone to silent, and only have it ring if certain people call me. I think I can do this by installing a silent ringtone, setting it as default, and then setting a specific ringtone for my vip people. Which is fine........that option doesnt seem available for messages. Is there a way I can set the default txt notification to silent and then set a txt ringtone for my important people?? Is there an app that works with this phone for that?

You are on the right track. You will set default tone as silent, and then set different tone for favorites.

And I second Hancent for text messaging

And I'll third that. I've tried most of the text message apps and always come back to Handcent. It's the most versatile and reliable one of the bunch.
