A system to plug your phone into, that would work like the following.

A larger screen, and a keyboard as one unit, so that your phone ends up looking/working like a lap-top. With your phone being the main power supply/heart of the system.

I work out of town all the time, and I think that would be a good deal.

Is there anything like that or is this clear out in left field??

Google is your friend. It's called a lapdock and works with Motorola phones

Or even easier and cheaper, just get the webtop adapter and a bluetooth travel keyboard and mouse. Instant laptop with a giant screen!

Webdock would be your answer. There is a 100 and a 500. I would spend the extra $100 for the 500 because it is a bigger screen, more usb ports I believe and 7 hour battery life.
100 is $200 and the 500 is $300.
Also you do not need tethering plan, it runs off your phone's data.
