Unhappy Droid razr maxx gets warm when inside pocket

So I just got this phone and went to work hours after I got it. I didnt use no app nor any widget on it yet.. I went to work and i just placed the phone in my pocket. An hour or two later, my leg felt warm and i noticed it was the phone. so i checked it and maybe i left the screen on, but i didn't. so i just placed it back and hoped it wont get warm again.. unfortunately it did so I just turned it off until i went home and recharged it since it went from 85% battery to 15%.

very very disappointing. it went fine after that until wa days ago.. i placed it back in my pocket and it got really warm. I checked all the apps, killed all of it before i started working but the same thing happened. It doesnt do this when i am at home. so, it does that and then after a while, it would cool down and never get warm. why did it do that anyway? im no rookie when it comes to phones so i know i really checked everything on the phone to see if there are any issues.. but there werent any. it was weird.. i even surrendered my iphone4s for this since the battery life is pretty awesome but when it does this, i was really disappointed.
is it because of the update maybe? :/

    please help.. thank you!

I don't have any issues with the update but my guess is something is running and killing the battery. It could be uploading or downloading...that part I don't know.

Okay, so I haven't tested this out with my Bionic, but it used to happen with my Dinc2 and a couple of dumb phones I had - if I put them in the breast pocket of a Hawaiian shirt, they would get really warm and discharge their batteries within 2 hours. I'm guessing that there is something in the fabric or the dye that was interfering with the RF signal.

It doesn't happen in any other pocket. Jeans are fine, cargo pants are fine, my jacket pocket is fine - but Hawaiian shirts (and I own several and they all do it) will kill the batteries and make the phone get really hot.

    I'm not kidding.

Really?? Well in my case, it only happens with my chef trousers and the phone was placed upside down. My coworker suggested I placed it otherwise and see if it would be fine and it did! I just tested this yesterday. Its really weird. I would try to call Motorola or Verizon about this and see if anyone else had the same issue.
    Thanks!

Can't even tell you how glad I am I'm not the only one. I told coworkers about the Hawaiian shirt thing and they looked at me like I'd just eaten a bug.

Like I said, I have had it happen with three different phones - one smart and two dumb. I don't think the problem is in the phone per se, it's just that certain fabrics may shield the rf signals and make the phones work like crazy to maintain a connection until their batteries conk out...

Let us know if you find anything else out - it definitely is bizarre!

Not a razr owner or user. Here's a theory. Maybe it's not the fabric shielding RF. Maybe it's a static issue? Some fabrics generate static electricity more then others. Makes more sense to me then it shielding RF. I bet the common fabric is either rayon or polyester... but this is a theory. . . . .

When this phone is trying to find and lock in on a signal, it heats up. I work in a "4G" area and it fluctuates between 3G and 4G and sometimes just loses the signal altogether. The whole time it's doing this, the phone is scorching hot. If this is how great 4G is, I'm just going to leave it on 3G. At home, I use wifi and don't have any problem.

I like that theory - but my Hawaiian shirts are 100% cotton.

I thought thats the issue too but when I placed my phone on my back pocket and not change anything with the network mode, it stopped getting warm.

I just had the same thing happen to me, where I suddenly realized that my jeans pocket had become uncomfortably hot. I've had the phone for a week, always carry it in my pocket, and this was the first time it had occurred.
