battery life on 4G. If you are in a 4G area, which I am, does a the Razr seem to drain more battery just sitting idle than if you are on 3G?

I know that if you are in an iffy area and the phone wants to stay in 4G but can't would be a problem, but what about actual surfing or sitting idle? Is it a lot worse than my Droid 2 on 3G?


I'm probably going to get the Razr unless the Razr Maxx drops in price really soon, so battery life might be an issue.

Battery life on 3G will always be easier on your device than being on 4G.

Trying to figure out what you are asking in the second paragraph is even harder.

If battery life is a very large issue, than the Maxx is worth the extra money, but if you don't think so than buy the less expensive Razr.

I was saying that I know a 4G phone will have worse battery life than a 3G phone in the same area, if the phone is constantly getting kicked off of 4G.


I think I can wait until July when the upgrade on my line is due, if they've dropped it down to $199 I would maybe get the Razr Maxx. I'm not paying a penny over that for any phone.

4G does drain your battery fast but no where near if your in an area that switches between 4G and 3G constantly.

When I'm in Boston, I get good battery life but when I'm at work, it doesn't do as well. I go between 4G and 3G all the time. But I still manage 14 hours at work. moderate usage.

If you're in a strong 4G area then you'll be fine. 4G vs 3G in a strong signal area for both will leave the 3G device with less battery drain.
I recommend getting the Maxx. You'll never witty about battery again. I won't say you'll get two or three days use but you'll get a full day without worry.

This is going to sound strange but for the last couple of months, Ive been running 3G for the most part to get as much from my Maxx as possible but after the .181 update it felt like battery life dropped a little. A few days ago I decide to see what it would do on strictly 4G and I'm seeing a little better life. At the very least it's not worse than what I was seeing on 3G. Very strange but cool. Couldn't be happier with this phone. I tested full brightness & no screen timeout yesterday to see how far it would go and had to go to bed after 6hrs of trying to kill it. It still had 50% left in the tank. For heavy user's, nothing else will do:-)

I got to finally use 4G most of yesterday while in the NYC metro area... battery did seem to go a bit faster, and the phone was up to 109 degrees. Later, when I switched to 3G only when we drove out of the 4G coverage area, the temp on my phone did drop. Interesting observations.

Standby time on the Razr is pretty good. There is a smart action that disables GPS and turn off background data when the phone is idle. It saves a lot of battery.

I get awesome battery life. At 3am when I plug my Maxx in I have 40% battery left minimum. I never turn my 4g off, and am usually in a 4g coverage area the entire time.
