Default Razr Maxx now, or wait it out?

So I am eligible for an upgrade tomorrow and am currently using a Samsung Fascinate. I am pretty much sold on the Razr Maxx however I know i will regret getting it if the Razr Maxx HD(or something similar to it) is released within the next couple months.

Being new to android world in terms of releasing phones i'm looking for some suggestions on whether to buy the Maxx or wait and hope they release a Maxx HD

I would wait. Shouldn't be long before the next Motorola phone drops. You don't want to be kicking yourself later.

I'm sure i'll be happy with it as it seems to be a great phone. I'm just not sure if Motorola is going to be releasing anything new within the next month or so. And i'm willing to wait if they are.

With rumors of the Droid Fighter coming out, you might as well wait on the specs/release date.

We are getting into the 'summer season' releases, so it might be prudent to wait. Moto has been quiet as of late, so due to the good sales numbers for the Razr and Maxx, they may hold off til the fall to release the next in line (the Fighter/Maxx HD) in order to compete directly with the new iPhone. If it was me, I'd probably wait it out a few weeks, at least. By then, we should have a good idea of when a new Moto phone in the line will be coming out. Otherwise, there will always be a reason to wait for the latest-and-greatest.

So you wait for the MAXX HD, then what? The next great thing is "almost here".
Buy what you like now. Learn to become Zen with the reality that you will never be ahead of the curve. I went from a BB Curve to a DROID2 to this MAXX two weeks ago. If you get antsy, start saving and buy the next great thing every six months.
P.S. this MAXX is verrrrrrrry nice.

The name of the game in the phone business is to always have a purchase worthy phone in store and on the horizon. This keeps sales steady and satisfies both the early adopters and general consumers. There will always be something better coming and you can always wait perpetually for something just around the bend. Waiting makes sense if your current phone is in good shape and you know something you like is coming within a reasonable time and are willing to wait and pay the release price. The question you have to ask yourself is whether the benefits are great enough to justify the wait and cost.

Personally I don’t see too much more than a bump in terms of performance, so you have to decide if its worth it to you. Razr’s are a pretty good value now with the original being $99 currently, the maxx is rumored to be getting a price drop in the coming weeks. If either of those work for you the value you get now will likely outweigh the slight performance bump you get waiting months. In the end its individual.

I just got my Maxx on Monday and I was thinking just like you at first! Then I had to think about it the screen on the max is awesome! I wanted to see if the Maxx HD was coming out, but then again I really needed a phone! I don't regret my decision I figured the hd will have the same specs I already have. And now it's like "so what" I do not regret my decision at all!! You cannot stay ahead of this game if you want the "Maxx" get the "Maxx" you will not be disappointed!!!

I have DINC2, which I got as a replacement for DINC when it gave out after a ginger bread update. So essentially I got a new phone free.

When my update came I seriously thought about purchasing MAXX, although for my daily use DINC2 is just fine (when you just want to read emails and occasionally browse the internet, you don't need super duper screen resolution or ultimate processing speed).

However, when I weighed the pros and cons between MAXX and DINC2, there wasn't much difference except that MAXX had enormous battery compared to DINC2. For me, 4G is not much of an issue since I'm mostly connected to WIFI at work and home. So I asked myself if $300 was worth it for bigger battery and the answer was no. I just bought 2400 mAh extended battery for DINC2 and I'm very happy with it.

Until MAXX is more compelling, like having bigger screen size and HD qualifty, I just don't see that much differentiation between MAXX and some of the other phones available right now (excluding HTC One and SG3). So if I were you I would wait until what Moto has to say about the next MAXX, to see if it's worth putting $300 or just to save yourself some money if the current MAXX is reduced in price by the new announcement.

You could wait a month, then end up kicking yourself in the **** a month from that. Best advice is get one as soon as you can so time can start ticking till your next upgrade becomes available.

I also agree since May just got here to wait it out. Just to have another choice to choose from.

I have a RAZR now, and similar to a previous post, if newer phones don't offer much more or don't get my full attention, I will probably just get a Maxx.

I do like the features of the gs3 and one x alot tho. But for my wants n needs...I will probably just stick with Motorola phones.

At this point, I'd wait, especially with the rumor of an HD Droid Razr Maxx.

I would wait a month or 2. Should be hearing more about the RAZR HD soon, and if nothing else, the Maxx ought to come down in price. Especially going from a Dinc2. No need to be in a big hurry. Be strong!

I had exactly the same scenario play out with my original DINC. The DINC2 has been great and serves my needs well on most days. However, the lure of great battery life and 4G speeds is becoming more tempting.

I have considered getting an extended battery for my DINC2, but don't want to hunchback effect. I usually carry a spare battery, but would prefer to not have to worry about the battery at all.

Lastly, I use my DINC2 to tether my laptop often (PDANet) and would like to take advantage of the 4G speeds. I would also like to use the phone as a WiFi hotspot (via PDANet) and get rid of the Clear spot used at my client site for tablets, laptops, etc. Unfortunately, HTC phones cannot use the PDANet hotspot feature.

I am going to wait until the DINC 4g is released later this month before making a decision. The only thing holding me back from getting the MAXX now is the fear of the phone getting bricked after an ICS update and the issue surrounding the easily cracked Super AMOLED screens on the MAXX. If the battery life on the DINC 4g isn't able to make it through an entire day (7am - 9pm) then I'll probably roll the dice on the MAXX.

I bought my Razr Maxx on the very same day I was eligible to upgrade 4 weeks ago. No waiting around for me. This was the phone I wanted, and I didn't hesitate...this phone rocks! If u wait for "the next best thing" to come out, u will be constantly waiting because once u decide what u want, a few weeks later there will be something else that comes out and teases your wallet. Decisions, decisions.

If you waited, the maxx is now $199 on verion website. I would get the maxx at that price over waiting. Any new phone coming out will probably be $299, at $100 less the maxx is a great phone.

As others have said, there is always a new android phone coming out, if you are always waiting for the next new phone, you will never get one.

Bought a refurb Maxx off Craigslist this weekend to see how I liked it. I had always had Motorola phones before getting my Galaxy Nexus. The build quality of the Maxx is much better than the Nexus and I'm still on my 1st charge from Saturday afternoon at 40%. I do miss ICS for some things, and the screen isn't as brilliant but the battery and form factor really do it for me.

I bought mine for $300 from someone that just got it back as a refurb from Insurance. I would check that route 1st.

So at this time I'm planning on selling the Nexus and making the Maxx my daily driver.

The Maxx just dropped to $199 at VZW, and with the 14 day return policy, that would be a good route. Amazon probably has it even cheaper though.

The price drop may signal the release of the Fighter/Maxx HD though.

There will always be the "next great phone" coming out "in a few weeks". Seems like every three months or so there is a wave of new awesome phones and the forums are flooded with angry posts about how people feel cheated because something better came along.

I just got the MAXX on Monday. The battery life is as advertised and then some. It kicks the crap out of my iPad.The phone is also freaking fast! I have no complaints about performance. It also doesn't hurt that Verizon's 4g data is pulling down the 18 to 22mbps in my area (long island, New York). I am sure the fighter will have a better screen, but the current screen is no slouch. It is bright and beautiful, but not quite as sharp as the HTC One X, GNex or iPhone 4s and the colors are also a bit oversaturated. The blacks, however, are inky black! My one gripe with the phone is the underwhelming camera. The exposure is off and the white balance and temperature are off in almost every photo. This seems to be a common issue with motorola phones. I hope they improve the on the next version.

If you really want to hedge against missing out on the latest and greatest, you may want to but from Costco. They give a 90 day no questions asked return policy on cell phones. The only negative is they aren't discounting the phone and haven't reduced the price to match Verizon's latest cut. For me, I didn't mind paying an extra $80 for the assurance of knowing that I can upgrade any time in the next three months, which is an eternity for smartphones. If you go for the MAXX now, however,I think you'll be very pleased with you're decision. Good luck!!

I also popped for the maxx after the price drop. I am very pleased with this phone! A great phone now trumps a slightly greater phone in 3-6 months in my book.

If yo have unlimited data, the Maxx to day is definitely a score over tiered on any device tomorrow.
