PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
Please forgive the double post but I wasn't sure if this would get lost where i originally put it as a reply.
please tell me if this is acceptable battery life for my Maxx, or if i have my second no good one.
My battery is at 60%
it has been off the charger for 10 hours
the number 1 usage is voice calls at 28% which says 22 minutes
next display 1 hour 2 minutesnext android os 19% 40 minutes
Phone idle 7% 9 hours
cell standby 6% 10 hours
Taptu 5% 10 minutes cpu total 7 minutes cpu foreground data sent 327.32 kb data received 4.02 mb
mediaserver 4% 6minutes
To me it doesnt seem like a lot of usage to use 40% of a Maxx battery. But maybe my expectations are wrong. Please let me know. - 06-15-2012, 02:12 PM #2
Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
Cell standby is a killer for battery.
Display also will chew through it pretty quickly.
Seems acceptable to me... - 06-15-2012, 02:16 PM #3
Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
I don't know, 10 hr with 60% doesn't seem that bad. I think if you make more phone calls the battery drains faster.
Here are my numbers for comparison. Was at work, so used it very little.

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
Yeah I'd say that's pretty good for battery life. You said 60%. Is that looking at the stock battery meter? Because that may be rounded down or up. So it could be 64%. I know not much of a difference.
I'm at 73% currently after 11 hours, but I've been at work all day too.
OS 39% 1 hour 24 minutes
Wifi 14% 10 hours 44 minutes
Display 13% 1 hour 31 minutes

Android OS 28% 1 hour 16 min.

I don't care what kind of phone you use, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence. Sent using tapatalk 2. - 06-15-2012, 09:20 PM #8

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
To check battery use on your MAXX, go to Settings, Battery Information, Battery Use (that gives you percentage). Click on each item and that gives you Time on.
Remember, certain functions suck more battery life than others. I think Voice Call is the worst battery drain. But then again, it's a phone so you gotta make calls, right?Samsung 950 > LG Choco > BB Curve > DINC > DINC2 > MAXX - 06-15-2012, 09:39 PM #10

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
Actually, I don't think voice call is that much of a drain--after all, testing of the Maxx has shown supposedly up to 20 or so hours of continuous voice calling. The display is really one of the biggest energy sucks, along with cell standby in a weak-to-no signal area, where the radio is constantly trying to find a signal.

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
I just got my Maxx about 5 days ago and thought I would have better battery life than I am getting. I did a quick test last night because I seemed to be losing a lot of battery overnight. I turned off all Smart Actions and I lost 12% over night. It was off the charger for 4 hours during that time. So far it has been off the charger for 6 hours and I have 84% remaining. (Important note: I have only gone through 3 full charge cycles, so I do not know if that makes a difference, and hopefully the battery gets stronger after a few more?)
Here are my stats:
Android OS - 55%
Phone idle - 21%
Cell standby 16%
Display - 5%
Gmail - 2%
I still am having trouble comprehending the Android OS being so high. My Droid X had the exact same setup as I have on my Maxx and I would never have Android OS stats this high. Any explanation? - 06-18-2012, 09:44 AM #20
Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
I'm at 60% right now after taking it off charge yesterday morning and not really using it much (weekend).
26 hours, 34 minutes
Endomondo Pro 24% (gps, did 3 mile bike ride with wife/kids)
Android OS 19%
Phone idle 19%
Display 15%
Cell Standby 15%
Facebook 3%
contacts 2%
Motorola Services 2%
No wifi on except for a few minutes while I showed a coworker some pics on FB. - 06-18-2012, 10:51 AM #21
I think that when we report battery life results on here, our ideas of usage patterns vary enough to make our comments left to interpretation only. Therefore I propose that when we state that we get this or that on light, moderate or heavy use, that we also include our average monthly data usage over 3 or 4G and specify which it is, so that the rest of us can properly gage what kind of user we are verses someone else stating 60hrs. It's only fair. I'll start by saying I average 15gb a month on 4G and challenge all of you to state your usage this way instead of saying low, medium, high or extreme. What do those terms mean to us without real usage numbers anyway. While I get only 24 hrs out of mine at 15GB a month, a person only averaging 1GB a month is obviously using their device way less than I am and therefore would indicate to us that your idling while mine is hard at work. I’d like to know that as part of knowing someone is achieving 60hrs from theirs making me feel like there’s something wrong with mine. If they happen to be getting those results while using it as much as me, then I will know that there could be something wrong with mine and I'll need to check into it further. So let’s be honest people, and disclose these things to keep these reports fair and balanced shall we.

I may not be understanding something,so fill me in if I'm wrong.
I don't see how data used per month impacts how we report a battery cycle. While I see how being on 3g or 4g impacts the hours on a cycle I don't see how the data per month affects it.
The numbers being posted are the percentages and hours for one charge on the battery, not the entire months numbers.
Every cycle is going to be different based on what you did on that cycle.
One cycle could entail little use and show many hours of up time, while another cycle can entail heavy use thus showing lower hours. Monthly use wouldn't have anything to do with either of them.

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
Ok, I purposely ran mine down to 10% over the weekend and here are my numbers so lets compare here.
I made it 1d 3h 37m 32s. Pretty average for me.
Display 29% 3 hours 45 min.
Android OS 20% 1 hour 4 min.
Wi-Fi 11% 14h
Phone idle 8% 23 hours 59 min.
Cell standby 7% 1d 3h 37m
Voice calls 6% 10 min.
Facebook 4% 12m 18s

Re: PLease tell me if this is acceptable battery life
I'm sure your right about the individual cycles. I understand. I was just trying to figure out if you use your phone less than i do in general. I figured knowing your average usage pattern could help me see that. If I use 15gb a month and you 1gb, I'm obviously using mine way more than you on any given cycle correct? Nevermind, just got tired of seeing people, inculding myself, use terms like 'average usage'. Well what does that mean really? Your idea of average is different than mine and I was just trying to find an equal base line. Sorry to bother you with it.

It's never a bother trying to find common ground or a system to help things be explained on a more logical or equal basis.
As for my personal data usage and usage patterns it varies greatly from month to month and day to day.
Am I home and able to use wifi, watch TV,listen to the stereo and just use my phone to surf the web, or am I out and about with no wifi and using it for entertainment and navigation too.
I have used 5gb per month up to 13.5gb per month, it varries.
