Think of yourself buying a new car.... you paid the money in full to the dealership for the car, and now you want to drive it..... the salesperson tells you that delivery will be in 6 weeks....

3 Weeks in you get a call from the salesperson. " Your car is scheduled for delivery today....."

You go to the dealership, only to find out your car wasn't their and no one has an answer as to where it is..... "but they will look into it and get back to you....sorry for the inconvenience."

You call back the next week for an update; however, no one has an answer for you....you ask to speak to a manager, they apologize and tell you, "when your car comes in, you will be the first person called."

Weeks four and five set in and you hope that your car is on that delivery truck....but it did not ship. And still, no one has an answer for you...
Frustration sets in now as there is no answer what happened to your car....and then FINALLY on the last day of the sixth week...you get a call saying your car is FINALLY HERE, and you may finally come and pick it up.......

    See the potential problem?

    It's a lost cause, bro.
    I'll recap the following responses you'll get to your post;
    "Entitled"
    "Whine"
    "Dumb"
    "They don't OWE you anything!!!"
    "Omg be grateful"
Basically, once you fork your money over, shut up and take whatever you get. The consumer base has devolved to just settling for whatever comes their way. This is similar to those that yell "If you don't like America, get the **** out!"
But I do love America, and I do love Moto products. I would like to see them both become even better, as a consumer and as a taxpayer. The deadline is being met, no one is arguing that it wasn't. The issue is the last minute release, and that it bothers some of us. Simple as that. No one is anger bombing their Twitter over this, or trash talking their dev team.
I'm wondering what would happen if Moto would have said ICS will be released in 2012. How many people would be bothered by it launching on December 31st.
But again, your words fall on deaf ears.

Everyone has to remember this is a device that has functioned very well with little/no issues so "needing" an update is almost irrelevant on this device. It works as advertised and there is no real hurry for an update. The only reason we "need" an update is to satisfy our desire for new things which realistically doesn't make it a priority for moto or any other company.

This isn't a good analogy. You bought a new phone and you have the new phone in your hand. You are driving your car. You just don't have the liquid-cooled leather seats you were waiting for. Your car is still the best in the business, gets the best gas mileage in the industry, has great visibility and acceleration, you just don't have your precious liquid-cooled leather seats.

And you complain. You hold one of the best phones in the industry, a phone that people with ICS have been willingly switching to the terrible, ancient Gingerbread just to get our hardware, and your only complaint is that you don't have the patience to wait for the end of Q2. Patience is a virtue, and soon, it will pay off tenfold.

EDIT: On second thought though, maybe ICS is your car. Maybe that's the only thing that really matters. In which case, you could have easily put your Razr up on eBay, there are plenty of takers, and bought yourself a Galaxy Nexus. But lets face it, you'll be losing a lot in the hardware department, just to get a shiny new interface.

I guess if we are looking at it as a car, from my perspective this would be my analogy.....

So I walk onto a lot, and they have the EXACT car I want, except.........it's white. And I HATE white cars. So I start to walk away. But the salesmen runs me down, and says look.......if you can give me ONE WEEK, we will pay to professionally paint that car Navy Blue. Just give us a week to get it into the shop.

So I decide.........okay fine. I can deal with one week of a color I don't like. Love the car, don't particularly love the color. And then I bring the car back in a week, and they say...."oops, we need another month. But thanks for being a valued customer of ours. We promise it will be worth it." Then after a month, they need another 3 months. ANYONE would get frustrated with that. At least a little bit.

I agree, it is my fault entirely for believing this salesmen, but the thing is, I bought this car from the best dealership in the State, and they have a fantastic reputation of customer service, so I REALLY thought they'd stand by their word. Ultimately yes, it is entirely my fault for being foolish. But who hasn't gotten suckered in by some gimmick at one time or another?

I love the Maxx even with Gingerbread. But I LOVE updates and change. And I can't help but get excited when one is on the way. It's not that i'm "whining" or livid. I just get excited, and even defensive when someone is condescending to me because they feel differently.

But no matter what, I am just happy to have a great phone and I hope we all can be happy together and not lose control of our emotions and get nasty. Thanks for listening to me

I see a slew of devices are getting ics, or at least some announcements of devices getting it. Has anyone heard anything new about our device?

I was wondering the same thing. This whole thread got so off topic so fast, that I failed to realize that I haven't seen anything confirming these dates. I'm not saying OP isn't right, I just wonder where else the info can be found.

I haven't heard anything new anywhere.

It was a "tip" from someone in Moto. That's what it says on Droid Life, at least. I'm guessing it'll push 3 days after the soak, so hopefully that's before the 27th.
No facts on this, just my personal opinion.

Agree. The other poster who used the car analogy cannot be more off base. It isn't like this is the bionic that had a ton of issues. The maxx has been one of the best working phones out of the box that I have had. ICS is only going to add to it but is far from "needed"

I don't. He (Droid-Life) will post anything just to draw people to his site. That site lost credibility a while ago. AC is the place for facts.

Sorry for arriving late to the party...but I can understand why Dovahkiin is rather annoyed. If you compare the Droid Razr to the Galaxy Nexus, both were released around the same time. (actually the Razr was released a week earlier) Yet out of the 2 high-end phones, only the Nexus came out with ICS installed. It seemed odd that both phones most likely had similar development periods, (or at least enough time to commit to ICS) yet only one had the more recent software. I'm not sure why, it's not like ICS was exclusive to Samsung, which makes Motorola seem kinda "lazy" in not including ICS from the get-go. But being that the Razr Maxx had almost double the battery, a lot of owners, like myself let that go, seeing that we were told (or at least I was by the verizon salesman that ICS for the Razr was "just around the corner)

The slap on the face appears not so much from waiting to the last minute of the end of Q2 2012, but in my view, seeing so many older devices get ICS upgrades before the Razr, I can't help but get annoyed at every report of different devices getting its ICS before my Razr Maxx does. Is Motorola really trying to be a perfectionist, or are they really lazy?

I can count on one hand the number of older phones that received ICS prior to the RAZR duo.

Forget analogies, I want real life examples of precedence. How often has any company made promises about updates dates and not only delivered on time, but delivered ahead of schedule (and were there any major hiccups)?

If there is plenty of precedence, I'll change my stance on this, otherwise it just seems to me that some people have unreasonable expectations based on the reality of the industry.

Deiter Bohn often said that people should buy phones for what they are, and not what they might be at some point in the future. I've treated my purchases that way and haven't been disappointed.

Not only did I not pull my hair out waiting for when my Dinc would get Gingerbread, when it finally did come, there was a huge error that disabled maps, gmail, and random apps and I had to eventually hard reset my phone and hope I backed up everything right (I didn't, and I ended up losing some files and settings that took quite a while to replicate.)

I don't particularly care when the update happens because I'm quite happy with my upgrade, but I do care that when it comes that it works. It's true that I didn't buy the phone with expectations that an update was coming because I was told so by Verizon, but I would also never believe it if I had known, based off of prior experience.

So what examples within the phone industry have happened in regards to updates that have created these expectations in some people that Verizon is dropping the ball?

Edit: And/or is this the first update that you've had to wait for?

I was talking about comparing the update situation of phones. Tablets with ics but without cellular radios can't possibly be compared to phones getting ics, because they don't have to go through carrier approval.

Is this ICS update going to make the Razr Maxx global capable? VZW did say that Razr Maxx will be among some devices to receive software updates making them global/world capable. Any one with an idea
    on this?

So many phones would have ICS if the carriers weren't putting these updates through the ringer. Carriers don't really worry about fragmentation.
