Gmail notifications & sync post ICS

After the ICS upgrade my Gmail notifications stopped. Under settings for my gmail account notifications is checked as well as for each active label.

The Gmail sync is shown as "off". Selecting that item to change sync settings brings me to the account and then to a list of "touch to sync now" buttons. touching them does sync now but backing out the master control still shows gmail sync off.

Any suggestions? thanks

Solved: Under home screen menu> systems settings > Accounts & Sync
there is a master on/off for sync for all accounts, in my case Gmail and Backup Assistant Plus. At the top above the blue bar there is a master sync switch, in my case it was turned off after the ICS update. On my wife's phone it was turned on after the ICS update. Go figure!

This worked for me too, however the master slider was actually on. I switched it off, and switched it back on again. Only then did it actually show that my email and contacts were not set to synch. I checked those boxes, and push email and notifications started working.
