Used to be able to use any music on my phone as a ring tone directly in GB. Doesn't appear to be possible in ICS. Only list that comes up is what's in the ring tone folder. BUT, I found a work around. First, find the song you want to use as a ring tone under My Music. Go to My Music / My Library and long press on the song. From the pop up menu select Use As Ring tone. This sets the song as your default ring tone. Now go under People and open the contact and hit the menu key. Select Set Ring Tone and that song will now appear in the list. Select it and then change your default ring tones back to what it was under Settings / Sounds. Even after you change the default back the custom setting for that contact remains.

You can move any mp3 file to the Ringtones folder under Internal Storage (using the stock My Files app). It will then show up under the Ringtones list. It has to be an mp3 file for it to be recognized, though.

Right, but this way you don't have to move or copy any files. I don't know why they changed it but this workaround works.

Just discovered that when you do this you also get the option to use that MP3 as your alarm notification.

Wish there was a way to assign custom notifications to contacts using the stock sms app in ICS. I know there are apps available like go sms or handcent but i like the hi res contact pics in the ics stock app.
