Default Exact steps to do a reset and restore?

My phone seems to be functioning similar on ICS as it did prior to the update. I initially had some battery drain issues on ICS but those APPEAR to have resolved themselves after a few charge cycles. Therefore I am unsure if I should do a factory reset. I got my Maxx very recently and don't have much on it yet anyways. So I am thinking that maybe I will do a reset to see if I can increase m battery life (it is currently about the same as it was on GB). Can someone provide the exact steps in doing this? My contacts and calendar sync with my google calendar.....do I need to back up anything or just log into google? Thanks

I get about 42 hours of battery life before the phone powers off. This is with moderate use. This includes about 10 hours of complete inactivity while I sleep and get ready for work.

That thread does not say what I need to backup and how to restore back. Also, how does about 42 hours of battery life sound with moderate use? Thanks

To backup, you have a few options.
1)leave it as is and when you sign in, the market will re-download what you needs or want back
2)root your phone and get titanium backup and backup that way then restore
3)mybackup pro to backup then restore
    -Droid RAZR MAXX (Artic 2.2)
    -Motorola Xoom (Rooted/Unlocked ICS)
    -VZW 4510L LTE MiFi
