Re: Free to tether
It might not be that simple. As the Android Central article points out, the ruling forbids Verizon from blocking these apps in Google Play, but it doesn't say anything about forbidding Verizon from still charging you for using them to tether. That being said, I don't think I've been charged for the few times I've used Foxfi.

Re: Free to tether
doesnt mean they wont find a way to charge us in some other way. no company will take a loss like that without increasing "usage charges" in some other way.
just use foxfi and tell verizon to suck it. - 08-01-2012, 08:13 AM #7
Re: Free to tether
I have read it a few times, a few different places, and I think it is all in the interpretation of the ruling. They way I have seen it written a few times is that if you pay for a tier data plan (i.e. 2GB / 4 GB / etc), you can not be charges for tethering. Obviously, Verizon knew this was coming and that is why they changed it so tethering is free in the new "share everything" plans.
Based on an article that I read on either CNN.com or Foxnews.com this morning, it still apears that anyone who has unlimited data will still have to pay for tethering, because they are not on a "Tiered" plan.
How true it is, I am not sure. I have never really needed to tether before, but I have foxfi just in case I ever need to.Thanked by: - 08-01-2012, 01:27 PM #8
Re: Free to tether
Personally, I would either use FoxFi or load a custom AOSP ROM... it's a great world to be Rooted!!!
