phone app after JB no speed dial

I've updated to JB and now no speed dial available. Anyone else experience this problem? I've downloaded a third party app that does not work that well - exdialer & contacts. Any suggestions?

I hate that it opens to the dial screen. I prefer it to open to my favorites - since I use them the most. I have a feeling I am going to be making tons of but dials. Not gonna be happy about that.

What about adding the contact to one of the home screens? that is what i have been doing. or use the Motorola contacts widget?

I've seen a few threads about this, and remain a little puzzled as to why people still need the Speed Dial function. Speed Dial was pretty much a holdover from the quaint ol' days of featurephones that relied on the physical keypad for shortcuts. I just add my most commonly called contacts to one of my homescreens as individual Direct Dial widgets. You can fit up to 16 contacts on a homescreen, which is more than what you could do with just long-pressing a phone keypad digit.
