3g wont lock in

Can't get 3g signal showing full bars but won't lock in. Switch to cdma/lte and grabs 4g no problem. Only trouble is I'm only gonna be in 4g area for awhile and I live in 3g only. Any suggestions?

What do you mean it won't "lock in"?

Try toggling airplane mode. Whenever I have cell data connection issues, I just toggle airplane mode and it gets fixed.
