Multiple Razr issues

I got my Razr 2 days ago now, and when it's worked--it's worked well. BUT--I've already had to visit my local Verizon store once yesterday due to force close issues and all of my apps/homescreen disappearing and throwing errors. They did a hard reset and sent me on my way...and it worked fine.

Last night, right before I docked it to go to bed, it asked me to do the new software update...so I told it OK and docked it to allow it to download and install the update. I went to sleep. I woke up this morning, undocked it, and all of my homepage icons are gone as are all of my shortcuts/widgets/contacts...and it's still throwing continuous force close errors...and now, it's rebooting about once every 5-10 minutes or so on it's own, just sitting on my desk w/o me messing w/it.

So--I'm off to the Verizon folks again this afternoon. I'm torn b/c I really like the phone and Motorola, but even the Verizon folks asked me last night why I got the Razr instead of the Galaxy Nexus with ICS. I don't know whether or not to tell them to give me another Razr and just assume this one is a lemon...or to go ahead and say adios to the Razr and go with the Galaxy Nexus after only 3 days.

What say you, folks?

you probably got a lemon. I had the razr and then got the nexus. Although the nexus is an awesome device, the antenna sucks. So if reception is important to you, stay with the razr and just get it replaced with another.

I would return it for another. If you are unhappy with that one then go for the GN.

Im going to say you got a lemon. I got a Razr and never had a issue with it yet. Sold phone and performance is awesome. I did the latest OTA and did see a nice improvement in camera picture quality. But to this day its been smooth sailing with the Razr. Never had a dropped call and always had good strong signals.

Well...I got the new one last night. I've downloaded plenty of apps, played w/the phone a bit, and even downloaded the update from this past Monday...and *knock on wood* it seems to be doing just fine. Thanks for the advice!!!

unfortunately im feeling your pain. i got mine mid november. all was well for about 4 weeks and then it went south last week when i tried to do the software update to ICS. they (verizon) has sent me 4 replacements and they have all had one issue or another from random rebooting right out of the box to one that would never even power up. the last straw for me was last night (just got replacement #5 in the afternoon) and it shut down 3x and then would stay off for 5+ minutes and then just magically turn itself back on. I could not make phone calls, emails, zip all night. This is a phone that I use for work and i was just out of luck.

ive had multiple droids and prior to that a crap load of blackberries, so im not new to the smart phone game.

i really liked this phone and wanted it to be as good as everyone touted but for me anyway, its not to be. i was outside my 30-day window but was able to convince verizon to give me a full refund for the razr. put in an order for the 4s and it ships in january.

Brook196, I am hoping that your experience is not the norm. I got a new Verizon RAZR about 3 weeks ago, against the advice of my family and coworkers (all IPhone 4 fanatics). I had the early Motorola Droid for many years and really liked it.
I was really enjoying the RAZR until today. It was fully charged and operational this morning, but after arriving to work it was dead. No amount of holding buttons or tech support would bring it back. Verizon will Fedex a new phone to me with an anticipated arrival of tomorrow am. Until I get the new phone I must endure all the "I Told You So's" I am really going to pray that this is a one time failure, however your story brings a sense of dread.
I did have "Lookout" installed so I think I will be able to recover my contact listing and some other data. That combined with the removable memory card should help.
Any advice on more complete back-up/sync is appreciated.

Happy New Year All
